Bringing this forward. My system is: Closed concrete tank (there is one one inch hole I must patch). Water FORMERLY went through 20 micron filter, then five then 1 micron then UV.
Unscrupulous contractor changed it out so it is 20, then 5 then UV. I think this is not enough to filter out RLD. He scoffed. What say you? I never had any pressure problems with the 1 micron filter.

The smallest nematode eggs I see on the following site are about 20 microns in diameter. So both the 20 and 5 micron filters should block them.

There are problems with tackling a blanket statement of water "filtration pore size".... & making any definitive statement on the "right" filtration when the data is still being done & the first papers on the research are just out...
There are block water filters that have set maximum pore (puka) sizes & there are wound filters that have "average" spaces between wound cords...
The most recent data (though not totally a definitive answer yet) has that the RLW has not been able to pass 5 micron carbon block filters, but HAS passed through 1 micron wound filters....
This is in part to the fact these are tiny mobile invertebrate animals that can transform their body shape quite a bit & can slither trough wider flat spaces that the wound filter provides...

Wow. Chilling, Carey. Nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide. Very sobering. A one micron carbon block appears to be best. Better might be well water. Then that leaves the pool -- I find slugs in it pretty often. Removing them with a net requires sticking your arm in the water and sometimes going in the water. These nematodes are very hardy and persistent. Slime trail floating in water. Ugh. I think I will move to a third world country where the water is safer.

Remind me again, what is county’s excuse to not put in a piped water system in Puna?
Considering how much the feds put out to truck water to the national park it seems that the county/state should partner with them to split the cost of running a pipe up the mountain and begin the process of putting in a plumbing system to all the subdivisions along the way. As to the 130 corridor, just lay the pipe already and give each subdivision along the way so many years to get their act together, plug into it and join the first world.
But no, Puna is just a tax grab.. no need give anything back.

Actually, these nematodes are found in many countries (esp 3rd world.... but most of the countries they are in also have other nematode problems & many have prophylactic anti-helminthic treatment programs that takes care of most nematode infections - but, unfortunately, not all...)

Do we think they are intelligent and have a terrestrial origin...or are they from OUTER SPACE??!!! And we always thought the invaders would be humanoid in appearance. Maybe the Puna Spaceport wasn't such a good idea in retrospect.
They crawl through strings in filters and REPAIR THEIR OWN DNA when zapped with UV light. Not of this Earth.
