RE: Alternatives to Spectrum TV? - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-09-2018 digital via antenna do you need some sort of translator (like a cable box) All new TV's are set up to receive digital OTA signals. All you have to do is plug an antenna coax connection into the antenna input on the back of the TV, run the channel scan program on your TV's setup guide (this automatically finds available channels) & you're all set. I believe you can manually input channels on some TVs as well from your remote, so it's good to have terracore's channel guide handy. RE: Alternatives to Spectrum TV? - LazyLehua - 07-09-2018 I hate Spectrum...they just raised prices on me again. Might need to look at Roku...but Spectrum also does my land line and wifi. No cell service out where I am. Stacey Living the life in Cali and Hawai‘i RE: Alternatives to Spectrum TV? - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-09-2018 Spectrum also does my land line and wifi Here is what I have: Spectrum for internet connection ($43) Phone: Google Voice phone number (free) used in conjunction with an Obi voip phone adapter box ($60 from Amazon). Once connected to your internet/wifi all local and U.S. long distance is free, with no monthly charge. Ooma makes a comparable product to which I believe you can port your existing land line number. I’m not sure if there’s a monthly fee for Ooma. TV: Roku, or Apple TV (no monthly fee) RE: Alternatives to Spectrum TV? - terracore - 07-11-2018 What does the Obi phone adapter do? Google voice works on my cell phone using the wifi. RE: Alternatives to Spectrum TV? - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-11-2018 Obi converts Google Voice into a rj11 telephone plug (and signal) that can connect with a cordless phone. This allows you to use it as you would a landline, with multiple handsets around your house or property, and voice mail. I like using it with my 2 line Panasonic phone, so I can carry a single handset that works with both my landline & Google Voice line. The Panasonic base station also has the capability of blocking up to 250 phone numbers, so bye bye telemarketers who use robo dialers that repeatedly try your number throughout the day. RE: Alternatives to Spectrum TV? - terracore - 07-16-2018 If anybody has been on the fence, the Fire Stick is on sale TODAY ONLY for "Prime Day" 50% off ($19.99). I should have thought about this last week when I bought my Roku. https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Fire-TV-Stick-With-Alexa-Voice-Remote-Streaming-Media-Player/dp/B00ZV9RDKK/ref=as_li_ss_tl?s=aps&psr=EVGR&ie=UTF8&qid=1531766240&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=fire+stick&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&linkCode=ll1&tag=pw016-20&linkId=9f94f2f3b4a9bda486a4a4b6d697293b If anybody has both, is there any reason for me to send the Roku back and get the Fire stick? |
