RE: Ineptness in State & County government - ElysianWort - 07-29-2018 Okay. Thanks 1V1, knew I wasn't just trippin' "In AK the primary election used to be completely open. Then, the Republicans began insisting that primary voting be closed by party lines. Their reasoning was that people affiliated with other parties, Democrats and Alaska Independents especially, could influence the Republican candidate outcome by crossing party lines nullifying stronger candidates. My feeling is that the Democrats made the same thing happen here for the same reasons. As usual, party politics are more important than the good of the people." RE: Ineptness in State & County government - Seeb - 07-29-2018 quote:The primary is for party nomination it’s not a public election you are supposed to belong to that party to participate. It’s just here they have them on the same day and mix it with county non partisan races which confuses the hell out of things RE: Ineptness in State & County government - kalakoa - 07-29-2018 Why is it not okay for voters to jump party lines? It's just another way of making sure you stay disenfranchised. If voting could change anything, it would be illegal. If not voting could change anything, it would be illegal. RE: Ineptness in State & County government - Rob Tucker - 07-29-2018 I'm not 100% sure about Hawaii but I believe you can jump party lines in a primary. You just can't vote in both primaries. You get to pick one. What are you so worked up about? Something you heard on the radio? So you come to Punaweb for "the facts"? Check with the county clerk or the League of Women Voters and get your facts straight. Come back and fill us in. But please start a new topic. RE: Ineptness in State & County government - reni - 07-29-2018 One more post on this, please! My Absentee primary ballot states "YOU MUST select ONE political party or nonpartisan ballot below. Vote only for candidates of the political party or nonpartisan ballot you selected. Votes for another party/ballot will not be counted" (Caps are theirs) RE: Ineptness in State & County government - Rob Tucker - 07-29-2018 Yeah well, that's the way primaries work. You can be a Republican or a Democrat as you choose. RE: Ineptness in State & County government - ElysianWort - 07-29-2018 My Absentee primary ballot states "YOU MUST select ONE political party or nonpartisan ballot below. Vote only for candidates of the political party or nonpartisan ballot you selected. Votes for another party/ballot will not be counted" Cool, now it's cleared up what I was talking about, I did hear it on the radio, I won't be calling the county clerks office, (anyone else may if desired), and I learned it is only the "primaries" That changes nothing in the way I feel about it. I still think it's messed up and should be allowed to vote for anyone I like and not fenced in in any way. |
