RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - dan d - 07-13-2019 I will be there. Probably by myself. But thanks for the concern. I dont plan on being anywhere close to the proterters. But if attacked i will protect myself. Im there to show there are 2 sides to a coin. I have from the beginning supported all astronomy. I havent enjoyed going up to my mauna (Its my mountain too) since the protests started, and the vis center got all messed up. From a very comfortable and enjoyable experience to a looking over my shoulder at nite ,not a safe place to be kind of mountain. I will be there for the kids, for STEM , for TMT that cares about our kids education. U know TMT didnt have to give our island 5 million$. They did t do it as acarrot to hope to get a place to. BUild. They did it to give our kids a chance at science, math, engineering, tech. Also these kids will benecessary to run the telescope etc. Come show ur support at wallgreens if u want. Aloha I want to be able to enjoy the mauna again. I love it. HPP RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - rainyjim - 07-13-2019 Thanks for investing your time in such a worthwhile cause Dan. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - SBH - 07-13-2019 Big difference between waving signs downtown and being in the way at Mauna Kea Access Rd. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-13-2019 But if attacked i will protect myself. If you click my link on the previous page about the protest / event this Sunday, they use words like vigil, ceremony, chants. It appears their intent is respectful in nature, not the boisterous, noisy gatherings of previous years. Of course it depends on who shows up, and how many attend, but I believe the plan is for a peaceful assembly. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - SBH - 07-13-2019 “At sunrise Saturday July 13, 2019, the Royal Order of Kamehameha I, in collaboration with, and in support of the kiai (protectors) of Maunakea, will designate and establish Puu Huluhulu, at the base of Maunakea, as a Puuhonua, or place of refuge. Traditionally, during times of strife and contention, a Puuhonua was a place, or person, that would provide safety, refuge and protection. In establishing this Puuhonua, we, the hoaaina, are exercising our traditional and customary practice of creating places of refuge.” https://www.bigislandvideonews.com/2019/07/13/puu-huluhulu-to-be-designated-a-puuhonua-tmt-opponents-say/ Ige may counter this with closing Saddle Road. How long could that last? RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - Chunkster - 07-13-2019 After the fact "designations" of various sorts of holiness have been used by the publicity seeking obstructionists throughout this process. Fortunately it at least appears that the coddling and bending over backward not to offend a minority within a minority is coming to an end. We'll have to wait and see how things go, though, because I don't trust Ige or Kim to maintain backbone for very long. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-13-2019 the Royal Order of Kamehameha I When is the testimony period for establishing this place of refuge? Will there be a hearing? Could we see the laws, regulations, legal decisions followed by the Royal Order of Kamehameha, and their precedents? RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - TomK - 07-13-2019 Jim, "Tom, I think your thoughts on this matter are coming from a good place, yet I can’t help but point out the irony of a Brit suggesting limitations on public protest to an American - surely you jest." I understand the irony. However, the message I'm trying to get over is from all the current observatories, not just me, and some of them are run by the US! Seriously, I hope there are pro-TMT rallies, just not on the mountain near the anti-TMT protesters because there is potential for something bad to happen which will make life difficult for everyone, including those who work on the mountain. And if you remember the previous protests, groups from elsewhere became involved and they might not share the same values as the non-violent local protesters. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - dan d - 07-14-2019 I will be not far from my protecters. Looks like its just me. My mom came to the last pro stem rally but shes 87 and thats to early. Was tbinking of wearing bee suit if it gets bad and bringing a hive with me for ultamet protection HPP RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - randomq - 07-14-2019 That place of refuge is gonna destroy the sacred mauna and poison our aquifers! Oil and gas spilling from all those heavy aina crushing pickups will commit genocide on our rare endemic plants. Methane from the pakalolo smoking grifters there will forever desecrate our air! WHERE ARE THE PERMITS? WHERE IS OUR CONTESTED CASE HEARING?! |
