RE: Maui County Sues Oil Companies For Climate Change - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-02-2019 Oil companies profit about 7 cents on a gallon of gas. Gas stations make approximately 7 cents as their profit, some are oil company owned, some are privately owned. The privately owned stations like Woodland or Minit Stop sell other items with a higher markup so they can stay in business. Oil companies in their role as an oil producer make about $2.00 per gallon, then another $.24 as the refiner. https://money.cnn.com/2008/03/13/news/economy/gas_gallon/index.htm?postversion=2008031910 RE: Maui County Sues Oil Companies For Climate Change - terracore - 11-02-2019 quote: That 2008 article is based on crude at $110/barrel. It's currently $56. RE: Maui County Sues Oil Companies For Climate Change - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-02-2019 The article also states the cost to produce a ballet of oil vary widely, so the profit per barrel varies widely as well: Crude currently trades around $110 a barrel, but breaking down the money in that barrel of oil is tough. ... "It's difficult to generalize; there's a whole spectrum of costs," said Ron Planting, an economist with the American Petroleum Institute, an industry trade group. They can range from $1 a barrel to produce crude in Saudi Arabia to over $70 a barrel... Nonetheless, $40 billion - or any of the record profits seen by most oil companies over the last few years - is certainly a lot of money, and it has put Big Oil in lawmaker's cross hairs. Oil companies make a double-hulled boatload of money, even when wholesale prices are low. RE: Maui County Sues Oil Companies For Climate Change - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-06-2019 The City of Honolulu will also sue the fossil fuel companies: The city then plans to seek outside counsel on a contingency basis, which means there will be no legal costs to taxpayers. https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2019/11/06/city-sue-fossil-fuel-companies-bid-hold-them-accountable-climate-change/ RE: Maui County Sues Oil Companies For Climate Change - kalakoa - 11-06-2019 The City of Honolulu will also sue the fossil fuel companies Maybe the City should stop burning coal first? RE: Maui County Sues Oil Companies For Climate Change - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-06-2019 City should stop burning coal first? I think these suits will emphasize less the hypocrisy of the plaintiffs, and focus on the knowing actions of the defendants. * Did the defendants have data which showed what could happen if their products were burned in ever larger quantities? * Did the defendants spend large sums of money to deflect and obscure the issue of CO2 emissions, and purposely confuse the general public? A general public who is still confused to this day because people generally believe the first thing they hear, or hear most frequently? * Did the defendants prevent earlier adoption of alternative energy solutions already available in the 1970's and 1980's, such as solar and wind power, first through their purchase of small alternative energy companies, then by undermining and impeding their implementation through price gouging? I can't tell you how many articles I read about solar energy breakthroughs in the 1980's which increased power output of panels while lowering manufacturing costs, only to have the company bought out by ARCO - - who then purposely and intentionally scuttled production, sales, and R&D. Shortly after WWII they started buying all the commuter railways and promoting the "freedom of your own transportation, where you decide when and where you could go" with the automobile. There are many areas that people now wish there was a commuter train line to ease the congestion of bumper to bumper traffic to get to work with the added time and expense. Imagine a solar powered train line similar to the BART system on the mainland that ran 20 minutes apart continuously around the island with stops in every town and populated area without the graft and corruption of HART at a price cheaper than gas and tires? |
