He didn't like being told the deal had to move fast or someone else might buy the property,

And what if someone else bought the property? Aren’t there six other potential sites to choose from?

RE: Puna Bus Hub - kalakoa - 01-17-2020

And what if someone else bought the property?

I'm sure that other buyer totally exists. There are probably even multiple offers, each trying to outbid the other.

Aren’t there six other potential sites to choose from?

Sounded like one of the sites was actually much better, even.

Very odd how the design of the 3 buildings just happened to be what the County was looking for in a future bus hub...

RE: Puna Bus Hub - kalakoa - 01-17-2020

the design of the 3 buildings

It's just an amazing coincidence that the design and layout are ideal for a concession of some kind, which then (more coincidence) just happens to be across the street from the school.

The county cites the speed of adopting the site, even though it has insufficient parking and currently not enough busses to service existing routes... No one seems to be questioning why the county should pay over a million dollars for a 1.x acre residentially zoned parcel that last sold for $82k. Especially considering the county ALREADY OWNS a logistically much better site recommended by outside consultants.

Hawaii County may not be the most corrupt in the US, but it sure looks and stinks like it in the council chambers. Glad Matt stood up and said something about it.

has insufficient parking

Unpaved parking which would not pass final. (Ask the nice people at Mountain View Propane about their pavement.)

"What it says on paper is not what it seems is actually occurring," Villegas said. "It just seems that the wheel came before the horse."

Consultants had recommended leasing Site 6 as an interim solution until the county could develop a more favorable property, such as Site 3, near the new police and fire stations. Two of the parcels are government-owned and wouldn't require purchasing.

Yes, we definitely need to spend money we don't have on stuff we don't need.

Upside: Pancho's will be there a while longer... maybe even until Popeye's opens.

And 900,000 dollars for an unimproved lot in pahoa? What the....!?

"Pancho's will be there a while longer"

I heard that Pancho's was moving to where the Akibono was.
