I guess people will have to drive up to the summit if they want good star gazing experience. Or do they lock the gates for driving to the summit at night?

https://www.staradvertiser.com/2019/12/29/hawaii-news/mauna-kea-road-cleared-as-protesters-shift-focus/

A crew that included 15 employees from the county Department of Public Works also hauled in loads of cinder and cold planing asphalt material to cover lava alongside the road to level out the new campsite for the protesters, he said.

The tents are now 10 feet from the road and are separated from traffic by barricades. The county also plans to install some speed bumps on the access road near the protest camp, but the campsite will be restored to its original condition once the protest ends, Messina said.

Sounds like "aiding and abetting", even if you silently ignore the fact that County workers are installing material on State land -- probably zoned Ag, so need an SUP -- what about environmental impact, trafifc study, NPDES?

what about environmental impact, traffic study, NPDES?

Didn't the protestors insist that the TMT do all those things and more? Cross all the t's, dot all the i's, in some cases multiple times. They often claimed the TMT was not following all the rules, that Mauna Kea was mismanaged and needs a new authority put in place so the mountain is properly cared for.

Is this what they meant? Quickly throw down some cinder and cover it in asphalt without notification, with no studies, reports, reviews, or even perhaps a hearing for any of us who would like time to comment and object before it's a done deal?

the TMT was not following all the rules

Did DHHL grant County a "right of entry" permit?

Equal protection under the law?

Ethics?

A crew that included 15 employees from the county Department of Public Works

Are the protestors so depleted at their encampment that they’re unable to move a couple of tents by themselves? Their social media supporters couldn’t show up for an afternoon to help?

Instead, the protestors depended on 15 County workers to do their work for them because they can’t round up 15 people among the Access Road campers or followers. All along they’ve claimed a majority of the Native Hawaiian people oppose the TMT and support them. If that’s true, where are they?

Listen.
Does anyone else hear a death rattle?

Gawd I hope so.

I don't think so. They stopped the telescope construction. That's what they came to do. We'll see what the next round brings.

They stopped the telescope construction. That's what they came to do.

So no responsibility to clean up the site? Move the tarps as agreed? Remove unused structures? Let the County clean up after them, like a mother cleans up after her teenagers? What happened to respect for the aina, which they claim is one of their chief concerns? Just stop, block, and go?

I believe everyone was waiting for you to do it.

What an embarrassment. Ignorant, hypocritical, and lazy. Our future ali'i?
