We would be energy independent if not for the whackos who kept PGV from expanding.

Now that Kilauea has had her say, there is no excuse to not do so.

Add to that the mythical undersea transmission line and little ol Puna could power the entire State.

Alas, we cannot have nice things because our leadership answers to the protesters instead of the people.

I will never understand why people in Hawaii think we should suffer extra for something happening halfway around the world that’s not our business, let alone the US as a whole. If Europe won’t suffer for the mess in their back yard why should we? I guess we can look forward to oil in Hawaii coming from some other unsavory country with terrorist or humanitarian crises ties, cause it sure as hell won’t be coming from North America for some reason that is beyond me…

People are so short sighted.
Many come to Hawaii to escape living in the lower 48.
They never consider that because Hawaii is in the middle of the Pacific and has a relatively large land mass, it is a very desired location for a naval/military base by all major world powers.
If it didn't have the status of being an actual state, an actual portion of the U.S., Chinese, Russian or something else, would probably be the major local language.

How long would your house last if there was a contested military takeover here?
Take a look at what's happening in Ukraine.
It could easily happen here.
With the mealy-mouths now running our country, it is still a possibility, although not very likely yet.

Ready for World War 3, I'll get good mileage out of my fermented guava fuel.

Mediocre
[attachment=103]

If you are wondering what happened in October, the charger broke which took them 3 weeks to warranty, I imagine that would have really sucked with a full EV…. Especially if you had to hire an electrician to swap it out. One more little factor in the EV future, second time that happened.

Things aren't always black and white.

I was messaging with a friend in Germany, here's what they are paying (including the Shell station)

https://aktuell.meinestadt.de/saarlouis/benzinpreise

Those prices are in Euros per liter. The cheapest station at the lowest grade is $9.20/gallon. The prices are locked in until Sunday when they are expected to go over 3 euros per liter ($12.50/gallon).

The price of natural gas was the equivalent of $600/barrel of oil a few days ago, though I understand it has come down a bit since then.

People with fireplaces or woodstoves are scrounging for wood.

If it can happen there, it can happen here.

I agree, and have been wondering if our stint at self isolation, at being home bound because of Covid, was a sign we need to reconsider how we achieve our goals. Thinking of gas as an inexhaustible resource and our atmosphere as a dump really is growing old, isn't it?
