RE: Flying Large Dogs - mella l - 10-05-2007

I think that Jackie and Winston have been the only handlers people on the forum have had direct experience with. Their phone number is 808-488-3845. There are many others on the DOA list of handlers you might call.

As we were packing and the pet paper work was being done when our plans were blown out of the water, I never got to the point of completing the Health Certificate for our pets.

I have a question regarding the pet Health Certificates, if the state requires the health certificate 10 days prior to import/travel, and airlines have different requirements of 7 days prior to travel, how have people arranged the certificate around these parameters? Get one health certificate 10 days and another 7 days? Why am I confused?

Mahalo for any clarification on this requirement.

I had the same problem as KathyMeek back in February when trying to contact Jackie and Winston using the phone number on the hdoa list. The last two number of their phone is incorrect, transposed. Try 808-488-3854. And I knew how you feel. I went thru the same anxiety you have. But after calling and talking with Jackie, I felt a lot better. And the travel went very smooth. I am very thankful to Dan and Ramona, fellow Punatics, who recommended them and give me the correct phone number.

Mella, I had the same confusion. So I e-mailed the Qaurantine, and asked them the same question. They immediately replied that I could mail the other paperworks (vaccine certificates, rabbi test result, etc.) with money order (fee) in advance, then get the health certificates 7 days or less before travel. Bring along the health certificate on the travel date. When in HNL, walk to the Quarantine and give them the paper. That's what I did, mailed them 3 wks ahead, then took the dog to the vet a few days before travel for the health certificate. If this is not clear, e-mail them. They are super nice.

Thanks Val for the timing information on the health certificate. One certificate and two uses! We'll just be sure to carry original pet certificate on day of travel for airline and quarantine. Good-O.

Oahu phone book for Jackie Kupau, Little Friends Pet Care is 808-488-3854, the cell number is 808-295-1480,

Gene found it in the Oahu phone book!

We also have their email address, so if you need it send me an email and ask.

There's a thread on Konaweb right now of someone who successfully brought dogs direct from SFO to Kona. Those considering this option might want to check it out.

Yes, Mella. Make sure to have copies of the Health certificate. The airline (United) asked for extra copy to tape on my dog crate.

RE: Flying Large Dogs - Lewis - 10-07-2007

The above sounds like great advice. We flew from Frankfurt, Germany to LAX a few years ago with our Newfies. They were in very large crates and were more comfortable than us stuck in economy class. At the other end they were fine and happy to see us. They are both over 100 lbs and because of that, needed the largest crate size. This was by Lufthansa the German airline. I don't know if they fly to the islands, I'm sure their US partner airline must though.

Aloha

I'm sorry, but I'm a tad dyslexic and whenever I see this topic, my mind goes "Large Flying Dogs? Doesn't Puna have enough problems with coqui frogs, lava flows, earthquakes, Hurricans and now cannine projectiles?"

Aloha,
Rob L

I 2 am dislexick and when I look at the title I see "Large Dying Frogs".

But then, I see dead people.
