So you think it's right and proper to murder someone for saying something?
If so, I hope you like the taste of prison food.

I despise burglars, but murderers even more so.

Get Real Rob! It has been posted that Hawaii's law officials only solve ten percent of the crimes here. Do you like those odds! Do the math. It was also posted that this criminal has a had several theft charges as well as assault. This was obviously not his first rodeo!

Quite frankly, I hope this gets around to all the local low life thieves and criminals.( whatever nationality) Perhaps if we take care of our properties and personal belongings, these scums will get the idea through their thick coconuts that we are not going to take any of their BS. Gee, if I didn't know if I was going to get shot or not buy going onto to someone's land with the intention of stealing, I would think twice!! Let this dead man be an example of what happens when you trespass on somebodies property and steal what is not yours!

I recall some trick or Treaters being blown away in Kentucky or some such. Did you assume they were criminals too?

Let the police do their job. Unfounded opinions and speculations are of zero benefit.

It is amazing to me that not one person in all this commentary has suggested changing the local law. Has anyone even researched or read the actual law?

There is a small handful of local citizens who work to overcome injustices they see in the community by working with a local legislator to change laws they see as unjust or impractical in real life. I've spent the last year working on a volunteer basis to help empower the people in our community through the political process. Mostly what I've faced is scorn for thinking such efforts have any effect. However, I have seen others (from this small handful of local citizen activists) actually get laws passed that they authored.

Yes, democracy proceeds at a snail's pace sometimes but every now and then there is an unexpected groundswell that produces radical change quickly (ie, the Carter and Obama presidential elections). Mostly, tho', change happens little bit by little bit. But it takes an enlightened, caring citizenry to do it.

Well rainfire, I am not a quick to judge people as you are and I don't convict or condemn people based on newspaper accounts. It is sad to me that so many are so ready to celebrate the death of a human being without knowing all the facts.

Scary really.

RE: Home defense - rainfire - 05-16-2009

Oh that is easy to say if your not the one being ripped off, or getting hit upside the head for your wallet [B)], or held at gunpoint while being forced to drive somewhere. And you'll never know all the facts unless you were there. Being "judgemental" in this case does not make sense. If it waddles like a duck and quacks like a duck, well it must be a duck! One can easily identify and call a spade a spade. Nothing to do with being judgmental.

Conservatives, gotta love em! [Big Grin]

RE: Home defense - Rob Tucker - 05-16-2009

rainfire, you have only heard a newspaper account of what the shooter said. The guy who is dead is not alive to tell his side of the story.

For the record I have been ripped off before and have survived three home invasion robberies years ago and miles away. One does not forget such things.

I could easily conjure up a number of alternatives to what you have read in the paper and assume to be fact. But my imagination or alternative reading of what the newspaper says will not add anything to this tragedy. There's kind of one side to this story so far and it seems to serve the interests of the alleged shooter. How convenient.

It may be that all your duck walking and duck quaking will prove to be true. Then again it may not. At this moment the duck is neither walking or quaking. The duck is dead.

My condolences to the family of the deceased.

RE: Home defense - rainfire - 05-16-2009

Yes Rob, The dead man can't talk, nor cause anymore crimes! [Smile] I am sure he'll be missed at church.

RE: Home defense - ric - 05-16-2009

Mr Paul, since you seem to like to take issue with everything I say, let me explain again. . . it's not right to to shoot someone for saying something, but if someone threatens you on YOUR property, then perhaps. Even if they're leaving, it doesn't mean the threat is gone. I also commented that if this intruder was an innocent neighbor or passer-by looking for help, then my opinion would not be so.

I agree with you. I despise burglars and murderers. Since you apparently have grouped me with "murderers", I have to say that I despise dense people also.

RE: Home defense - PaulW - 05-16-2009

No, it's not right to shoot anyone at any time or in any place or in any situation just because they opened their mouth and said something. If you didn't know that, well, now you do.

I didn't call anyone a murderer, least of all the shooter in this case, who is innocent until proven guilty and hopefully will get a fair trial. Unlike the dead person.
