RE: HPP Robbery- Paradise and 8th on Friday - JerryCarr - 09-22-2009 We have had a major increase in interest in Neighborhood Watch in the past few weeks, which is about the only good thing to come out of the recent surge of burglaries in HPP. I am doing a training session for 15-20 people tonight in an area which did not previously have a high level of participation in our program. We have the people, time, and resources to train even more, so please contact us at HPPWatch@aol.com , and we will help you learn how to make your area safer. I know I have repeatedly put this on the forum, but I think it is important enough to merit it. RE: HPP Robbery- Paradise and 8th on Friday - Rob Tucker - 09-22-2009 Jerry, By all means promote the Neighborhood Watch as often as you like. Mahalo for your efforts. RE: HPP Robbery- Paradise and 8th on Friday - Devany - 09-22-2009 Jerry, you are a saint. What you are doing surpasses any "government" actions on this issue. Keep up the good work and all of you in HPP, get involved. Aloha au i Hawai`i, devany www.myhawaiianhome.blogspot.com www.eastbaypotters.blogspot.com RE: HPP Robbery- Paradise and 8th on Friday - missydog1 - 09-22-2009 I'm all for Neighborhood Watch, and think Jerry is doing a wonderful thing. Re the encouragement be some to report anyone who doesn't live in that neighborhood, surely you're not serious. In a place like HPP with so much real estate for sale, there is plenty of reason why a non-resident might be on the street. I drove all over HPP looking for property. I would have been real ticked off to be reported. SUSPICIOUS activity should be reported. Driving down a street slowly and looking at properties, even getting out and walking around, is something people do who are considering moving to the neighborhood. Or people can be looking for an address and be lost, sightseeing, looking for ideas on how to plant their yard, all sorts of things. RE: HPP Robbery- Paradise and 8th on Friday - Barbara - 09-23-2009 Thanks Jerry -- ever since you've taken on the HPPOA responsibility for Neighborhood Watch, we are more connected. We live on 5th and Maku'u, there was a burglary on 6th and Maku'u last weekend... one block behind us. Police responded. Neighbors immediately called and between us we alerted all interested neighbors. I guess we have a mini hui of Neighborhood Watch at the beginning and end of both streets. What time is your training and where? RE: HPP Robbery- Paradise and 8th on Friday - JerryCarr - 09-23-2009 Barbara, please contact me at HPPWatch@aol.com , and I will schedule a session for you and your neighbors. We do these on an "as needed" basis and have done them for groups ranging from five to twenty. We can do it at someone's home right in your area, or at the HPP Activity Center if that is more comfortable. Last night we had a very good and enthusiastic turnout for a new Block Watch on Third. I also want to offer a big "thank you" to everyone who has offered words of support and encouragement. It makes a difference to know that others share our goals and see hope of positive change. Cheers, Jerry RE: HPP Robbery- Paradise and 8th on Friday - Hotzcatz - 09-25-2009 Decades ago, Hawaiian Acres had a huge theft and break in problem. Hundreds would be hit each month. They put together a very aggressive neighborhood watch and the list of break ins went down to less than one or two a month. They have less entryways into their neighborhood and if an unknown car went through their area, it would have it's plate number and description recorded several times. The folks were fairly open about recording the plate numbers, too, so the cars knew they'd been seen. Kurt Wilson |
