I'm using it now and it's great. It would obviously be alot better in some areas of the mainland... but in my area where there are limited options... it's the best option for me.
It uses the Sprint 3G Network

.53 mbit, 300ms
(Not super great... but fast enough to use the internet comfortably.)
There just wont be much large downloading.
More importantly than anything else... I set this device up and haven't touched it since then. My computer has been ssh'd into some servers for 2 days now and hasn't dropped out.

virgin uses sprint 100% (as does boost mobile) so this works any where you have sprint 3g coverage. The speed will be what you would get if you ran speedtest on your sprint phone. The only sprint feature that this cannot take advantage of is the roaming agreement between sprint and verizon (i.e. sprint and verizon can roam back and forth).
Also if you have Sprint currently, you can purchase and HTC evo or a samsung epic and pay $30 a month more and have the SAME EXACT THING and a cell phone on top of. you can wifi tether up to 5 devices to your phones internet access and its 100% unlimited data, (READ NO 5GIG CAP on these 2 phones with sprint)

EZ ......all one needs to do is invite a v.p. for said company to buy a place up the way - I hear
after years of sat based internet - no upload
.................. wireless card - no video
and lord knows about all the other clever fixes- no bandwidth
its good to come home after trying to get online at airports etc.
one of those virgin dealie's is on the agenda for the next road trip coming up in a week or so - will keep you posted
