Here is a link to a current student settlement for a beating he took at school.

The dollar amount of the settlement isn't public, as local government does not want the tax payers to know how much this cost the community to settle this suit. Our tax dollars, but we aren't allowed to know how much?
Hopefully this type of crime will be addressed there so that the community won't have to pay coming and going for this sort of crime.

Looks can be deceiving. If this day was real, what day of the year was it? Of all the things I've read about this day, the day of the year is never mentioned. That's why I think it's myth at least in East Hawaii.
I know many haoles feel discriminated against here and rightfully so but to keep bringing this up in an attempt to garner sympathy is really too much.

Lahainaluna HS which had "equal opportunity' in place a long time ago. The Lunas also had "Choke a Moke Day" to keep things fair. That's what happens when you have the oldest High school west of the Rockies....beatings for all!!!! But as you can imagine, there weren't to many perps for that day!

Yeah right. I'm pure Japanese, lived here all my life and never heard of either day. I would think "slap a Jap day" would be on Dec 7.

I had heard of all three days many years ago. But that's all, I only heard about them and have no personal experience to say if they were rumor or true.

I'm of Okinawan ancestry, grew up in Honolulu through the 50's and 60's going to public and private schools and never heard of any of these "days". Sure, there were occasional tensions that broke along ethnic lines, but nothing that the phrases "Kill Haole Day", "Slap a Jap" and "Choke a Moke" conjure. I think they appeal to the sensationalist interests of some minds and blows issues out of proportion.
I have no other knowledge about what happened at Kea'au High School in this incident other than what was reported in the Trib. But I suspect all this "Kill Haole Day", etc. sentiments have little to do with it.
