Jerry,
I just find it humorous that, for some, the best Mexican food is made in America.

I have met people who travel here from where ever and upon landing make a beeline for Luquin's claiming it is the best Mexican Food they ever had. One person in particular is from Texas.

It's all subjective and a simple matter of personal taste.

It is all a matter of personal preference. A good example might be fried chicken in the South. You might be able to get fist flying over a fried chicken argument. Some like skin on - some off (I am an off). Some believe in brining, some in buttermilk bath. Cornbread is the same way. In the south you would never dream of using yellow cornmeal and calling it Southern, at least not in Georgia. BBQ is another example. NC vs Tx vs AL vs SC. That is another potential throwdown there.

As far as Mexican goes, every region interprets items differently, just like the US. We have a huge Mexican population in Atlanta and every place is different based on where the owners are from.

My 82 YOA mother will use yellow cornmeal. She is a good old NC farm girl. Also, there is absolutely no question but that NC barbeque is the best. I didn't think that was even in dispute.

Are the two-for-99 cents tacos at Hilo's Jack in the Box of the same price and quality as the mainland?

Are you telling me that your JITB $.49 tacos are substandard? Are they skimping on the mystery meat? I may have to re-think my Big Island relocation plans!

That's very likely true! All accounts I've found list President Bush's favorite food as either Mexican or Tex-Mex. Since this this taco is the indisputed best value in dining today, why wouldn't he like them?

OK, guys, I tried to stay out of the Jack in the Box taco discussion, but I just can't stand it. On our last trip to Honolulu, the Bear and I tried the JITB tacos, just to see what they were like. Got the two for a dollar deal, and threw the second one away. AWFUL BAD. (The Bear's comment is, "Mystery meat? What Mystery meat? It tasted like ground up, greaasy cardboard.) And we are not down on Jack in the Box. We love some of their sandwiches with the specialty Italian breads.

Cheers,
Jerry
