Keoki Kahumoku. Here's a link. You could contact him directly too Carol. Duh! Didn't think of that!

I may be in if it is in April or May, but not in Merrie Monarch. Either way, I totally support this wonderful idea!

RE: 1000 Ukuleles - rbakker - 11-28-2010

I want to be in on it! I'll learn ukulele to be part of a world record. How much does one cost?

I have set up an email account: thousand.ukes [at] gmail.com where people can start registering
their interest. This is so you can be contacted in future.

Sorry for barging in with this Carol, I will hand that email account over to you any time you want, you can change the password. Or I can forward to you anything that comes in. I'd like to help make a list of participants.

Of course, your addresses will NOT be used for any other purpose or passed on to anyone else (besides Carol).

rbakker and yurtgirl,
I sent you both emails, let me know if they don't go through. I am so happy with all the support for this idea people are giving. I want to make this happen, if this is a sign of level of help I can expect to pull this off it will become a reality!

OK then, he's George Kahumoku's son. Had a feeling he might be. [Smile]
Saw him play with his dad and the Kamakahi's (father, mother, son) at the Palace Theatre Memorial Day 2009.

We're blessed to be able to have him in the family. He brings sweet and clear melody to the gatherings Smile Got your info Carol, I'll pass it along~ Awesome idea and I hope it turns out to be all you envision!

Hey, if we can plan ahead, you got two more here. I can do a song or two, and my other half is a real musician. We got our ukulele in Kona as a souvenir our first visit. At the Farmer's market we asked the man selling them to pick us out a good one. It holds a tune well, sounds okay and was really cheap. Fun, too.

Event I just saw online ...

11th Annual Great Waikoloa Ukulele Festival
Saturday March 05, 2011
Hawaii’s top ukulele entertainers headline this annual musical extravaganza. Whether you are a resident or a visitor, the rhythmic sound of the ukulele will bring you back to a time of magical Old Hawaii, and make you want to get up and dance. Don’t miss this once a year event showcasing the sound that’s now a worldwide sensation – even on American Idol—and a chance to win your very own “designer” quality ukulele.

I am now collecting emails of interest prior to finalizing my proposal to admin at my school. We will need volunteers in the following categories to pull this off: ukulele players (a 1000 of them), planning and coordination committee, cleanup crew, someone to help set up and monitor a facebook page, someone to design a commemorative t-shirt and poster, people who can help network with uke teachers and other prominent people in the local music scene, registration and coordination people day of the big show, and probably a zillion other people and tasks I can't think of yet. Please email to thousandukes AT gmail.com and put your area of interest in the subject line so I can sort addresses when sending out updates. This could be SOOOOOOOOO great! I do want to be upfront that a big reason why I want to make this happen is to fund art and music classes for my school; since Public Charter Schools' recent budget slashing we have lost these programs, and it hurts the kids. T-shirt, poster, and food sales during the event are how I hope to raise the funds for these classes.
