Heard a rumor - can't verify, but would be interesting to look into.

Rumor is - some people are getting paid hourly to join the protest on the access road - presumably to increase the numbers to make the opposition appear larger.

Seems it would be difficult to find people - but who knows, some that don't care getting paid to join in - interesting if true. If its true, where's the money coming from? -- Following that money would be interesting.

Rumors are merely rumors. Not worth much speculation

I think every protest in the world is accompanied by claims of "paid protestors". Never seen any proof of it, which would be there if it was so widespread. As much I dislike these misguided people ignoring the rule of law and blocking public roads, I doubt very much there are paid protestors amongst them. Why bother, just post some mumbo jumbo on instagram and the hipsters will come running.

just post some mumbo jumbo on instagram

There is money donated to protest organizers, and perhaps some of it buys a plane ticket for a few people.

When I was a broke young college student my parents occasionally paid my way home for the holidays. I never thought that made me a "paid offspring." I wouldn't have gone elsewhere for Christmas, even with a better offer.

So I wonder, haven’t all these arguments, theories, etc. been presented in the courts? Are any of us providing anything “new” here? Of course we don’t know what was presented in the courts, but you’d think it would be fairly comprehensive, no? But we don’t know so we get to argue all about It here in the “Court of Punaweb”. Did everyone not get a chance to have their say? It seems to me we’re spending a lot of time reinventing the wheel.
Or
Do the courts have no jurisdiction over this matter?
If not the courts, who does?
Who’s in charge?

Who’s in charge?

My best guess is right now we're following the rules of the road.
Whoever sits in the road.

Tom, is it true that the James Webb telescope with be more advanced than the TMT? Also mahalo for providing info. And I apologize if I'm coming off like a douche to everyone, I'll be more reasonable from here on out.

EightFingers,

Among other permits, studies, and testimony, there was the 44 days of the contested case hearing run by Judge Amano. The BLNR then reviewed her findings of fact and came up with this detailed report:

Personally, I think 10 years and months of hearings should have been enough for everyone to have their say. Many here are simply responding to the protesters' repeated but already debunked or unverifiable claims.

On social media, I witnessed a haole accusing a native Hawaiian TMT supporter of cultural appropriation of his own culture. All bets are off.

Personally, I think 10 years and months of hearings should have been enough for everyone to have their say.

And yet, thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, across the islands think otherwise. Should be interesting to see it all work out. My bet, the state eats crow.

However big those numbers are, that's how many people didn't make their point during the contested case hearing. Tulsi should have made it clear before now that she doesn't care about due process and the law. Also hundreds of thousands voted for trump so there's that. Plus I have to see where those numbers came from.

Eating crow implies that one legitimately lost an argument based on merit. That's not what we are looking at here.
