You've lost me, Pog.

So happy that the VIS has re-opened. Fingers crossed that things continue to evolve instead of devolve.

TomK, thanks for your typical and predictable answer. With interests like yours Tomk, its Easier to see why the protesters are doing the protecting against the continued development, abuse, and disregard of our Maunakea(Aina). Astronomers like yourself Tomk, who work atop the mountain should care about the environment as much as the visitor center being open or not, jmo. Maybe The visitor center being open provides business (money) to the astronomers or observatories? where as new methods to prevent further environmental damage is looked at as more inconvenience for the astronomers to deal with. I don't expect any reasoned response or corrections from you Tomk.

That's really odd, 'cause from my reading, pretty much all TomK has done is provide reasoned responses and corrections. Thanks for that TomK ! Much appreciated.

Yep, just more of the usual misinformation. The observatories fund the VIS, not the other way round.

The article was a good read, the comments may require popcorn as views and opinions about the visitor differ greatly. http://www.westhawaiitoday.com/opinion/letters/protesters-make-visitor-feel-unwelcome

gypsy,
With Hurricane Hilda headed straight for Mauna Kea, what are the Protectors doing to protect the Wekiu Bugs, water table and pohaku?
I would think this storm might damage the entire mountain far more than a 5 acre building site?

Yes, anchor down the porta potties, or the s.... will really be flying! What about their structures? Hope they can take a good wind as well.

Good stuff hotpe. Actually the wekiu bug welcomes the wind for it blows up the insects the wekiu feed on. As for the water table, well Maunakea attracts rain quite often. Maunakea could use the refilling of its large aquifers, as development has tapped and diverted more water over the years. These types of storms can bring a good cleansing as well, hopefully wash away some of the disrespectful human contributions left on the mountain recently.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yCv60To4DFk

Don't worry about The storms impact to Maunakea, including the 9 acres the TMT plans on detonating. Better mow your grass or make sure you got nothing around that could blow around in the wind. Good time to check in with your good neighbors, some may need a hand preparing for the storms impact. Always expect power outages that come with winds over 40 mph in Puna!
