reni, things would be so different if state lived up to its promises. It is 100% on the state for their inability to live up to their promises that has brought us to this point.

"glinda"

"Gee, maybe TomK should call his buddies and let them know the TMT ain't a done deal, eh?"

What is it with you and your deliberately inflammatory posts? The astronomy community here is well aware of events, have tried to calm things down yet you can't help posting nonsense like this.

One member of Hawaii’s congressional delegation recently offered words of support for the Mauna Kea protestors. Here she is today far from District 2, see if you can spot her:

PS.

"Well, it looks like our Lt. Gov. may be anti-science too. Image that. A full on seriously respected scientist,"

Er, no.

"(an emergency room physician is a scientist or sorts, yes?)"

No. Scientists do research. If you can point to Green's research degree or the peer-reviewed scientific papers he's authored, then I'm willing to change my mind.

I wonder who would be in charge of this Hawaiian Kingdom that would broker deals (perhaps) with the scientists/TMT. Alii? Voted in? Is there a constitution? Checks and balances?

Lisa,

The new, proposed, constitution can be read here..

From: https://www.staradvertiser.com/2016/02/26/breaking-news/native-hawaiian-constitutional-convention-adopts-governing-document/

Native Hawaiian convention adopts constitution

On that page it reads in part...

The Native Hawaiian constitutional convention this afternoon adopted a governing document that will go out to a vote for ratification.

The constitution, approved by an 88 to 30 vote with one abstention, apparently allows room for federal recognition by the U.S. government while holding out for the possibility of independence.

“We reaffirm the National Sovereignty of the Nation,” the preamble says. “We reserve all rights for Sovereignty and self-determination, including the pursuit of independence.”

Under the constitution, citizens of the nation are any descendents of the indigenous people who lived in Hawaii prior to 1778. It also says citizenship in the Native Hawaiian nation shall not affect one’s citizenship in the United States.

The government would be composed of an executive branch — led by a president and vice president and advised by an island council, plus a legislature with 43 members representing the islands and Native Hawaiians, as well as a judicial authority.

Opponents of the four-week-long convention, or aha, claim the event was predetermined to allow for federal recognition, or the nation within a nation model of government.

And if you follow the link I include above you can read a pdf copy of the entire document.

The constitution itself has not been ratified. There is a lot of controversy between groups of Hawaiians that oppose the approach the group that wrote this constitution took. That whole state within a state model verses an outright regaining of the islands. And, on top of all that, there is a lot of Americans that say that the entire thing is unconstitutional. So, at this point it's an idea, but one that will shed light on the questions you raise.

"Under the constitution, citizens of the nation are any descendents of the indigenous people who lived in Hawaii prior to 1778."

So THAT's when we turn the clock back to. But then why are we going on about a monarchy? And of course screw all the myriad of other ethnicities that were faithful subjects of the monarchy in favor of a purely race based standard. That's not racist at all.

Boy oh boy. I have known for years the first class someone in gummit takes is "Common Sense Lobotomy 101", but when did the mandatory castration come into play, because they sure don't have any!
The "two law system"( the law is the law unless you are on a legal reservation) , graft, corruption, "catch and release" system of arrest, etc. etc. is wearing me down.
