"And BTW, I would be saddened to see the TMT not get built here."

Who do you think you're fooling? Maybe yourself? You remind me of somebody, just can't think who.

Lt Gov Green is a politician, not a normal person. He senses an opportunity.

Lt Gov Green is a politician, not a normal person...

Yes, today the Lt Gov can walk on water.

Glinda, thanks for sharing that. I was starting to think maybe the protesters should be heard on the federal recognition front. Now that I see how racist their plans are, not so much.

We're lucky we live in a democracy that's struggled through racism and become a better place for it. I like our shared values, equality, the melting pot. We don't need to go backwards.

You are welcome randomq. I too, if given the task, might craft a different document, but it is not my, or your, kuleana. As such I refrain from even considering the merits, from my subjective, and admittedly foreign, point of view, of the Hawaiian’s concerns. Instead I applaud the Hawaiian’s efforts on their own behalf and lend my support as I would anyone striving to be made whole again after an injustice has been perpetrated on them.

The thing that gets me is why are so many afraid of the Hawaiians? Why are so many afraid of the possible changes that their re-emergence as a sovereign might bring upon the islands? All things considered I think they might bring positive change. They might have something unique and wonderful to offer mankind. I don’t know, but suspect, based on what I have experienced and learned from them already, that they have the potential to create a society that is exemplary, that may be an important contribution to the human endeavor. As such I continue to remain open to their concerns and hope that they are successful in their efforts.

Will all that include me? Will my deeds be honored, and I be free to continue in my pursuits, will I want to, here? I don’t know. But feel that is secondary to the larger more important question of what the Hawaiian’s, as a free people, have to offer all of us. Is that idealistic, sure. But hey, the USA as a political entity is a failed state in my opinion. It’s government is abusive, supports the rape and pillaging of the planet by its corporations over the wellbeing of its people, and as such, imo, doesn’t have the moral ground to stand on. As such I lend my support to the Hawaiian people in the hopes they may find a better way.

Native Hawaiians represent 10.2% of the population. So they would want to kick out 89.8% of the current 1.4 million Hawaii residents?

There are the same amount of Hawaiians (144,000) living in California, should they be kicked out of California?

In this morning's Civil Beat update of the situation on Mauna Kea, available here..

https://www.civilbeat.org/2019/07/can-the-thirty-meter-telescope-survive-growing-opposition/

Lt Gov Josh Green is quoted to have said..

Green says Native Hawaiian protesters on the mountain aren’t leaving and that it’s time for a “grand reconciliation” with Hawaii’s “host culture.”

He says that includes taking a strong state position on federal recognition for Native Hawaiians and moving more aggressively to provide house lots through the state Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.

Doesn't that sum it up? Isn't that the crux of the matter? Thank god we have people, like Josh, who are in a position of power and can see clear enough that one can have faith there actually might be a peaceful solution to the current standoff.

So they would want to kick out..

Who said anything about kicking anyone out?

"Who said anything about kicking anyone out?"

The Hawaiians posting on social media.

"All things considered I think they might bring positive change. They might have something unique and wonderful to offer mankind."

Citizenship based solely on race? No, it won't be pretty, that's been tried and discarded long ago.

The Hawaiians posting on social media.

Hahahaha. Obie made a funny! The citizens of the USA post uglier BS than that on 'social media' every hour of every day. So what? There are bigots everywhere, why don't you do something about it?
