RE: Volcano acting up - chip - 01-04-2008 Hello, I might be wrong it looked like it on the front page of Tri.Herald. C. RE: Volcano acting up - chip - 01-04-2008 http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/local_news/ Where is that? C. RE: Volcano acting up - Greg - 01-04-2008 The Tribune Herald picture was taken in Kapa'ahu (near Kalapana) in 1986. RE: Volcano acting up - aikahimomma - 01-04-2008 Chip..that driveway is Kalapana 1986 as per the caption underneath RE: Volcano acting up - chip - 01-04-2008 Hello, I only can see the pic. and not the text. with its location and date and thought it was current. Thanks C. RE: Volcano acting up - Kelena - 01-04-2008 http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/articles/2008/01/03/local_news/local01.txt The link is above. I guess we are celebrating a jubilee! RE: Volcano acting up - gtill - 01-04-2008 My geology class at hcc in honolulu in 68 said no eruption has ever lasted over 9 years! So much they've learned on this one and at such a price! We waited 5 years for them to complete chain of crater roads after mauna ulu did it's deed, opening kalapana up as a bailout center from fern forest deluge, we wait again! Kalapana gardens was being heavily promoted at 10K for a sunny paradise, 1 acre with paved roads, almost bought one but couldn't sell our forest lot! My condolences to those who lost their homes! RE: Volcano acting up - jdirgo - 01-05-2008 Why we don't drop garbage into the volcano... http://www.slate.com/id/2181280/ John Dirgo, R, ABR, e-PRO Aloha Coast Realty, LLC 808-987-9243 cell http://www.alohacoastrealty.com RE: Volcano acting up - james weatherford - 01-05-2008 quote: Nice link. The reason, according to the site: "Because the hazardous parts would come right back out." This about as plain as it can be put. That article focussed on medical and nuclear waste. The Hilo issue is about 'municipal waste'. Still, burning anything in a volcano or a garbage incinerator or a forest fire does not make it "go away" -- it simple changes its physical form and chemical properties, most often to hazardous and/or toxic elements. The sickest (never official) remarks in Hilo have been the idea, never stated seriously (I hope!), of burning rubbish in Pu'u O'o btw: posting this from New Zealand. Here on 3 wk visit. Will be learning about the success of Zero Waste here. Also, forage-based dairy. Will do the tourist thing at the geothermal site, too. Nice place, Kiwi land. I want to know this about New Zealand: is the water warm? |
