RE: HPP Robbery - Dave M - 05-30-2007 Good point. I don't know if you read my post on the afteramath of Iniki. The National Guardsmen were fresh in from a hurricane in Fla. Heavly armed, at first, after a couple of days the turned in their weapons. They (the guardsmen)remarked that Hawaii was nothing like Fla (looting, pillaging etc..) I can't help but think that, in part, it was that since of community the has lead me to the islands to raise my kid. Take care, dave RE: HPP Robbery - HiloHaole - 05-30-2007 It'll probably be deleted by Rob. But Hawaii doesn't have the criminal element of Blacks like New Orleans and Florida. RE: HPP Robbery - Rob Tucker - 05-30-2007 I'm curious how that statement relates to anything..... One could say Hawaii lacks the Italian mob or Russian mafia too. Hawaii also lacks soybeans. RE: HPP Robbery - HiloHaole - 05-30-2007 Thanks for not immediately deleting my post, Rob. I was only speaking from statistics. Most of the looting in New Orleans and in Florida were from a certain group. Hawaii has much more of a community spirit that says, "Let's stick together. One for all and all for one." There's more of a "we're all in this together" in Hawaii, rather than, "What's in it for me." RE: HPP Robbery - Brad W - 05-30-2007 Been here going on three years and haven't yet felt the same need to "carry" as I did in Oregon or in SW Utah. Demographics seem to indicate an increasing number of boomers from the mainland headed this way - not really the group I'd be inclined to arm against, and a good thing in my opinion. I think it's the petty theives (perhaps ice driven and/or the unemplyed(able)) that have most folks un-nerved; and in some circles it's more ok to rip a haole because he/she doesn't belong here anyway. But those bozos are pretty easily guarded against. A well made fence with good gates, well trained dogs, and motion sensor lights at appropriate spots, does it for me. There's firepower if the friendly stuff fails to deter. My neighbors and I notice who comes and goes, and we talk about it. That's less community involvement than Rob suggests, but even my longtime resident neighbors think police work here is sorely lacking, and wanting more is an exercise in frustration. Rob, I admire your doggedness, but, since I usually go at things heart first, I'm too frustrated with politics here just from what I've experienced, read, and heard, to take this issue on in any depth. Working to help secure my neighborhood, at least out to the effective range of my .45 however, is doable. RE: HPP Robbery - Rob Tucker - 05-30-2007 Brad, Just try to not shoot until you see the whites of their eyes. Okay? For the most part our thieves are petty crooks. No Crips or Bloods or Mexican Mafia. To HiloHaole: It's my belief that following Katrina the real looting did not take place on the street, heck the place was destroyed....the real looting was big money going to the wrong people to do nothing. Sorry if I am cranky this week folks. My back is killing me. RE: HPP Robbery - HiloHaole - 05-30-2007 Rob, I agree with you. I didn't mention that aspect because that's everyday, everywhere. Disgusting. RE: HPP Robbery - Brad W - 05-30-2007 Sorry about your back Rob, excessive recoil will do that to ya. Back down those hand loads a few grains, you'll be fine. RE: HPP Robbery - mella l - 05-30-2007 Not to interupt the subject but Rob have you tried a massage? That's what helps me when my neck or lower back slip out and don't want to move. Hope it's gone soon. Love and Peace, Mella mella l |
