Yeah, "victory gardens" wont be a wartime fixture, but will become the norm just for survival in the USA. The shrinking middle class is very real. If things continue the way they are- this country will look more like south america - with the wealthy living in gated secured communities and the masses of poor people basically living a sustanance life- with some additional benefits that the wealthy are paying for.

Yep.
'Murica!

Im sure some people who speak out to much will be in nice jails as well.

I said it was presumptuous for a taxpayer to tell someone what to do. I wouldn't suggest it. On the other hand, if a person accepts assistance they might realize they are not entirely on their own, someone is helping them, and they might recognize that is taking place.

Oh, since I am forced to pay taxes are you saying that I own whatever I pay for and can do what I want with it? There are entire families on government subsistence, we can tell them what to do?

(...and I quote...) "You people with the money and the power, you think you can just own and control everything."

Right?

Just for the sake of argument. Let's say a working poor person was paying into the social security system to support the aging baby boomers who are hoarding resources. Let's say that person had children that qualified for "free school lunches" because someone in some gov't entity understood what was going on. Is that young person with the family really actually receiving assistance? Or does it only appear that way?

What if you don't have a choice, just like the people paying the taxes? I honestly believe that the financial situation most families are in is no fault of their own, an ever larger percentage of the middle class is dependent on foodstamps now. 50 million Americans are on food stamps, 85% of Hawaiis section 8 housing is in Puna.

Where did I state that the school lunches are free?
The breakfast program costs taxpayers money whether the breakfast is free or partly subsidized:

8. How much does the program cost?
For Fiscal Year 2003, Congress appropriated $1.68 billion for the School Breakfast Program, up from $1.54 billion in Fiscal Year 2002.

I don't know if you read my post - but I'm on your side, I know how hard it is to raise a family. We all accept help from time to time, from our parents, grandparents, family, the school breakfast program, and people with food advice on Punaweb. I think most of the people here making suggestions here are trying to help you.

Pay attention: current draft of Farm Bill as passed by the House this week drops funding for the food stamp program.

Whether it passes the Senate is almost irrelevant; the message is very clear.

We need a more local-cooperative barter-collective economy in which everyone produces something, or we're all going to starve well before the islands are sold to the Chinese.

Mandatory volunteer work required of parents for X hours ?

RE: Food Inflation - dragon2k - 07-13-2013

Abolish food stamps, welfare and medicaid. Keep social security and medicare. Time for some thinning of the herd.
