deleting my post because Kathy just had just posted the link to TEH's statement also

Yes indeed. The voters of district five will have one name on their minds come election day; HUNT. (Who's the other guy?)

The only real fraud will be if Tiffany doesn't report Sativa's massive name recognition campaign as an asset.

I'm sure Tiffany sends a big Mahalo to all of her supporters out there that are saturating the public with the mantra; HUNT,........HUNT,...........HUNT,..........

"Setting The Record Straight About My Candidacy"

Jeez... if her lawyer told her how to spin this one, she's paying him too much. When questioned about her Hilo homeowners exemption. she's clearly on the record as saying she's lived in the acres for, what is it... the past eight years? Now she's been living in Pahoa, in the back of a retail store? It must be some kind of Carlos Casteneda thing!

"HUNT...HUNT...HUNT....." really???
How about "TAX CHEAT.... VOTER FRAUD.....TAX CHEAT.... VOTER FRAUD"

Too funny about Castaneda. That takes me back. [8D]

Agree about her attorney not helping much.
Apparently it is fine to be registered as residing at any work place that technically has living quarters, whether or not you live in them?

If you look at Tiffany's write-ups for the campaign, she says she is intimately familiar with Hawai'i County Code and knows how to write legislation. She says she is a professional information gatherer and communicator.

Then look at her defenses she has offered.
She doesn't know property tax rules. She doesn't know voter registration rules. She doesn't bother to read her tax assessment. She doesn't think she needs to understand these things. She comes into compliance when the County or someone else clues her in that she is breaking the law.

But hey, she is a real expert on County Code and she's ready to write laws for us. [Wink] Maybe she should try reading the laws we already have before she raises her hand on this one.

...and whether or not they're permitted as such by the Certificate of Occupancy? I believe the rules (which are "for everyone") require this.

Again: it's mathematically impossible to spend "more than 50%" of your time in more than one place, so a fraud is being perpetrated either on the elections side or the property tax side. Pick one.

She doesn't know ... She doesn't bother to read ... She doesn't think she needs to understand ...

On the contrary, this makes her an ideal candidate for County Council.

Yes, I'm being completely serious -- consider how much time/money is being wasted on the GMO legislation...

Tiffany's response in the press release seems unsatisfactory to me, she seems to admit some wrongdoing but comes off as completely unapologetic at the same time. If you make a mistake you own it and you make amends when you can, which means she should be offering to pay any back taxes she owes the county also. While she is at it why not apologize for the ill conceived roast also. If she takes these actions and appears to be learning from her mistakes then she may be worthy of our support but if she acts like she is better than everyone, she is not.

I see your point. [Big Grin]
But if you read her campaign promises, she's rarin' to go writing legislation. It's only rules that would get in the way of her doing what she wants that she claims to have never learned. She claims to be an expert on our County laws and legislation writing in her statements such as to League of Women Voters. She learned it all working for Auntie Emily. Feel relieved now? [Wink]

Shonuff, very well said. The same has jumped out at me in all her statements, with the same response.

Where is her statement that she understands the importance of the voter registration law and the rules on homeowner exemptions, and that she owns up and regrets?

Instead she dismisses these laws as stuff that is only important to political adversaries looking for a way to make a non-issue (in her mind) take away from her campaign.

I think this Letter to the HTH Editor is absolutely on point and want to share it.

quote:
Character matters

Let me get this straight: a County Council candidate (Tiffany Edwards Hunt), who is now seeking to represent my ohana and our Hawaii County Council District 5, allegedly wanted to affect the outcome in elections in another district for the last two voting cycles, so instead of moving into the district where her interests really lie, she simply lists, under penalty of perjury, a surf shop as her legal residence?

To add insult to injury, when these issues are finally made public, she tries to spin it as merely “political theatre” — as if issues of character have no relevance to us as the voting public.

But issues of character and personal integrity are critically important when we decide on our elected representatives.

We are just fortunate in this particular case that those issues came to light before we returned to the polls.
