RE: Kolekole beach park rope swing - kalakoa - 12-28-2015 the "Some of these people choose this as a lifestyle" comments used here and elsewhere to justify not helping Same rationale is used to justify doing nothing about the condition/lack of roads, convenient shopping, etc. Homeless are just another "choice", right? RE: Kolekole beach park rope swing - beejee - 12-28-2015 @shockwave IMO you captured the larger issue. There are certainly "classes" of homelessness. I don't think anyone on PunaWeb will argue with you on the merits of supporting those homeless that legitimately need help. However, the reality is that there is another class of homeless - the ones that choose to be there - the ones that choose to spend all the money given to them for alcohol - the ones that **** on the street!! The bad apple spoils the lot. We see these "bad-apple" patterns frequently - the extremists of the group vs. the larger constituent of the group. I think this "bad-apple" pattern has also presented itself with respect to the TMT. Thanks shockwave for your perspective as I think you totally nailed it. RE: Kolekole beach park rope swing - EightFingers - 12-28-2015 I don't relish the idea of swinging at the end of a rope. . . RE: Kolekole beach park rope swing - dakine - 12-28-2015 the ones that choose to spend all the money given to them for alcohol That's a fantasy imo. Alcoholics rarely choose to do anything. They're addicts and making the choice to quit is agonizing and practically impossible without a massive amount of support. If they are homeless and spending all their money on alcohol they are way out there, miles and miles from making choices methinks. Though I agree shockwave nailed it. |
