RE: The weather here is so unfathomable. - Mangosteen - 04-21-2018 quote: Pahoa was warmer in the 1960's and 1970's. All monthly high temperature records were established between 1963 and 1977. Dry? Pahoa is just shy off 70 inches of rain this year and its only April. Most sites put 100 inches as the average yearly rainfall for Pahoa. Probably hit that average before even half the year is over. Wet years, dry years. A series of dry years followed by a series of wet years. This is the only pattern I've noticed. RE: The weather here is so unfathomable. - dayna - 04-21-2018 The weather here is great. It only rained 3/4 of the day today so we got a ton of farm work done. I can't complain. All monthly high temperature records were established between 1963 and 1977." That's weather, not climate, coupled with perhaps not the most reliable reporting station. RE: The weather here is so unfathomable. - Mimosa - 04-22-2018 Finally it is spring - new crops in the soil - winter crops sold or canned. Days are longer - less rain .All farm animals happy and healthy. A new foal over the week end - getting a lot done. Grand kids a big help on the farm as the elders are slowing down a wee bit. Up before dawn - asleep by 9. Spring is a happy time every year on our farms. We love the Ua. Mrs.Mimosa RE: The weather here is so unfathomable. - 1voyager1 - 04-23-2018 Back during late fall early winter of last year, I saw an online article about a climate [weather?] situation, event, or what ever you want to call it, that was setting up in the Western Pacific. It was described as going to cause a very wet winter for a strip just North of the Equator with Hawai'i located at the Eastern end of that strip. It was described as not being either an El Niño, or La Niña event, but something else. It seems to have materialized. Now my question is: Winter's over. When's it going to stop? I have some maintenance chores to get done on the house. I need dry sunny days to get them done. Of course then, I'll be complaining about having to work in the heat. At least I'll be getting something done, though. RE: The weather here is so unfathomable. - sistersue - 04-23-2018 The forecast today says heavy thunderstorms again this weekend.[] RE: The weather here is so unfathomable. - Kenney - 04-23-2018 Aloha 1V1. The rain will stop when it stops is my best guess. (I’m not meaning to be dismissive of your query. We just don’t know) We too need to do some dry weather maintenance outside, like treat the rust on the water tank and repaint it, but not today. The sunshine will return. Meantime, we can enjoy cool days and nights and maybe get some inside work done. Rain or shine, it’s a beautiful day in Paradise IMO. Mahalo Ke Akua. RE: The weather here is so unfathomable. - 1voyager1 - 04-23-2018 Actually, this rainy season isn't all that bad. Having lived many years in Western Washington, including the West side of the Olympic Peninsula, 40 days and nights of rain was often exceed by a large margin. it doesn't rain more often here. It just rains harder more often. Plus, it's a warm rain. That beats cold winter rains lasting weeks and months by a large margin. Additionally, the torrential rains are much easier to deal with than blizzards. My glass is half full not half empty. Although, it is filling fast. EDIT: I spent yesterday and today removing bad roof nails, epoxying the rotted areas where the nails were, and installing new roofing screws. In today's rain I rehung the gutter and cleaned it out. Not only did I get that problem fixed but I got a shower and my clothes washed too. Could that be considered multi tasking? RE: The weather here is so unfathomable. - PaulW - 04-23-2018 I've always thought that "warm rain" was a myth. It's coming from up there, and up there is very cold, even in the tropics. RE: The weather here is so unfathomable. - 1voyager1 - 04-23-2018 Try being out in a rain at 30°F with high winds, then try to tell me this is as bad as that. If I can work outside in a rain with only a t-shirt, shorts, slippahs, and a baseball cap it is a warm rain. |
