Thanks, WNW! The link worked for me. Although Ikaika got his point across, it was much too rambling and long. He seemed to be reading from something that Eileen had written or posted somewhere, so I'd like to see that, too, if possible. I know it won't change anything, but I am curious. Thanks again.

I want to mention why Councilwoman Eileen Ohara's accusations about Ashley Kierkiewicz and the Hub are still up on Hawaii Tracker, and why I am going to post a section of Eileen's original comment here, as it is buried in a comment section of another post.
I believe firmly in documenting actions taken by elected officials and accountability, that there are different standards for public servants. I could have removed Eileen's attack comment from Hawaii Tracker when I first saw the inflammatory message that makes accusations towards the volunteer group at the Hub. However, with the election only 24hrs away now I feel this is one of those pivotal points. I won't tell you who to vote for, that is your decision... I will say this; if these comments were made by a member of Hawaii Tracker not in public office I would have deleted the comment and considered removing the member from the group...
"The candidate you're supporting has no experience, doesn't know what a public/private partnership actually is (I've put together multiple such projects and brought millions of dollars to the Big Island for example the Big Island Biodiesel plant in Shipman Park where I served as business specialist to put together $15M in public/private partnership funding).
Also, you won't find my name in the E-court records for 3rd degree assault in a domestic violence case like you can for my opponent who, as an adult, beat up a family member. Sorry, that isn't classy. As far as her efforts to build transitional housing, that has so far been shut down by County for bulldozing without permits. The plan calls for building platforms on which tents can be erected. Not a plan the County will likely permit! So far, Puuhonua o Puna claims they haven't expended any money on evacuees, yet there is no accounting of donations .....they're basically attempting to regroup at this point, but they have no long term stated goals or mission. I wish them the best as there are many very good people involved, but using that effort as a springboard to get elected as a career politician also means you have to take responsibility for mistakes made. When 4 loads of donations to Bodacious Women were hijacked by Puuhonua o Puna, my opponent was contacted but chose not to make it pono. If she had entered the Miss Puna contest, at least I’d know her plan was to work toward World Peace, and an End To Hunger for all the keiki on Planet Earth, or Puna. She wouldn't have been able to get away with just placing a full color yard sign on the stage during that portion of the contest. Right now, I have no idea what she stands for.
As far as the fight for which she was arrested is concerned, I only want to know one thing - - did she win? Because then at least her constituents could have some degree of confidence going into her new term on the council, that she's scrappy, and willing to go the distance for us when necessary, or even, as some of our district’s past politcal figures like Emily or Faye were willing to do, when unnecessary. Keep 'em guessing, never knowing if or when a verbal outburst or unfastened object in the room might come flying in their direction. That’s how you keep things moving if there’s a stalemate on your bill.
And I'll bet $5 that Ashley has a much better arm than either Emily or Faye had in the day too, so it’s good to know we'll have that going for us.

I just wish I had heard more about the skills she has which would benefit District 4 voters. I have little or no idea what they might be from her blue sky campaign, and then you drop this;

I think these comments are illuminatory, and belie your disclaimer. You seem to want to claim some level of neutrality but since last night you've consistently insinuated or stated your skepticism of her. Time will tell, just as it did with Al, Gary, Em, Fred, Greggor, Eileen,Zendo, Danny or Jen, few of whom had much to recommend them for office. In reading the Ashley bio on the "About" tab of her *website she seems to have already reached and exceeded that, albeit, low bar at 32 years old. Check it out if you haven't already. BTW:EO's website shows her education and having started a farm as her accomplishments at that age.
Perhaps the takeaway is Puna likes to experiment, and every now and then picks one right. I think they just did you.

I am skeptical. I read her web site a month ago. I followed her comments during the campaign. She has no specific message or agenda that I was able to identify, so it’s not really possible to be against Ashley the candidate, or her undefined platform.
She’s like the Miller Light of council candidates, it’s difficult to be against something or someone with almost no discernible characteristics.
That said, I agree she’s educated, capable in some capacity, and obviously she has garnered support. But support for what? I’m skeptical about her plans for Puna as I don’t know what they are. I can’t really be for her, or against her. There’s nothing inconsistent about that.
She might do a great job on the council and I hope she does. Puna needs all the help we can get. She has the potential, but right now I don’t see that she had the necessary background or experience to hit the ground running. Let’s hope she’s a quick study.

I think a lot of people probably voted against Eileen as opposed to voting for Ashley. Ohara's proposed rooster ordinance was seen as a slap in the face of the local culture, even by locals who have little or no personal interest in cock fighting. I know people who voted against Eileen because Ashley has worked more in private business in her short span of years than Eileen, whom I believe has spent most of her working career on government payrolls.
For me, though, it was taxes. Eileen voted for several regressive tax increases apparently without realizing that she represented the poorest district on the island where every penny counts for most families. On top of that, one of those tax increases was a fuel tax hike, and Eileen didn't bother to even ask for a quid pro quo grant in aid relief measure for the private roads in her district before voting for it. I'll never forget when she told my neighbor and dear friend who lives on Social Security that it wasn't her job to restrain the county budget. So I voted against her.
I wish Ashley well, but I didn't vote for her with much confidence in her as a candidate. I voted against a tone deaf incumbent. Seems like that's the Puna way.

This mornings T-H lead was illustrative of Chunksters thesis regarding Eileen and "likeabilty" as a factor in the race.
The paper was unfolded and reviewed at the Democrats traditional post-elections Unity breakfast this morning, making the first course a heaping helping of Sour Grapes....
To Chunksters point, the difference in tone between the two voices in the article is striking. It also seemed the reporter spoke with AK regarding the campaign after getting an earful from EO. Interestingly, buried in the middle of the story was a paragraph in which AK was apparently complimenting EO for efforts made during the eruption emergency.
