And, of course, you need a song.

That is where the ukulele teachers will come in, they should know what song the most people could learn to play. As an always appreciative listener who can't play music to save my soul I will leave this part to the experts to guide me.

Barbra never ever lets anyone choose her song for her.

Then she probably wouldn't be part of a thousand uke ensemble anyway.

Carol, would you want to add the Guiness World record information to the checklist?

I'd like to hear more about the failed world record attempt in San Francisco. Anybody know what went wrong?

RE: 1000 Ukuleles - csgray - 12-03-2010

Thanks Susan, but I will handle being the contact person with Guinness. I don't want a whole bunch of different people trying to register our event with them. People's record requests sometimes get fouled up because of inaccurate information submitted, so it is better if that is handled by one person from day 1.

My understanding is that the SF attempt relied on individual uke players and I want to start by recruiting groups of players through schools and music teachers, then fill in with individuals. I think we have the advantage of 3 things: more uke players per capita than SF, not as much competition for people's time and attention as a big city, and 3rd, that the people of the Big Island will make it a point of pride to bring this record home. There is a strong competitive spirit here and enormous pride in the things that make the Big Island unique. Ukulele playing is one of those things.

So sorry Carol, I shouldn’t have put it out there. It was just interesting reading the process on their web site. I didn't mean it to be taken that way.
I will hush now and offer my assistance through the email address provided.
Do you think this will be a 2011 event?
