promoting terroristic treason and sedition?

If self-governance is a seditious act, then we've already lost.

Can you clarify what you mean by this? Why would people from outside HPP want or get mailboxes in HPP?

Those that are on long waiting lists who want boxes in the park. There are many who have POB at various post ofcs or on General Delivery. We started w/a private mailbox while on waiting lists for Keaau POB (1 yr waiting) and then here in the park (TL 2 yrs). We had to pay for our Keaau POB and another person we knew was getting it for free. I've heard some people have been on the waiting list for 4-5 yrs and still waiting.

Primal edge, I have the same complaint. I like to bike to mine as well and chose that location for that reason. The other location means getting into my car to specifically get my mail in between trips out of the park. I know...there are members who have to do this any ways. Now some of you will be able to walk to your mailbox location when the work is all pau.

When I first moved to HPP, I naively asked the postmaster why we couldn't get curbside delivery. The answer given was that "HPP decided a long time ago to have this delivery system" and then I asked "what if we changed our minds?" and the postmaster gave the same reply.

The postmasters reply doesn't sound right. Who would "ask" for the most mediocre and inferior service possible? I could see the Post Office may have suggested banks of boxes and the HPP board accepted the proposal, but no one is going to ask to drive somewhere to get their mail when the alternative is to have it delivered to your door.

The population density of HPP is very different now. Houses are closer together than 30 years ago. Even the Hawaii Trib-Herald provides street side boxes and delivery.

I would love to have my Netflix DVDs delivered to my home, and picked up with same day return to Honolulu.* Or Amazon boxes, no matter how large could be left at our door, saving a trip to Keaau. Yesterday the line at the Keaau PO was out the door. It took 15 minutes to drive there, then 20 minutes in line.

* If our carrier returns to the Post Office after 2 PM, the mail he's picked up doesn't go out until the next day. I can't think of anywhere else in America where a Post Office would do that.

This.

RE: HPP Biz - mermaid53 - 03-22-2016

I don't understand "This." ???? Please explain.

Here's the other aspect of this whole mailbox thing. The elderly or physically challenged who can't drive to get their mail.

RE: HPP Biz - mermaid53 - 04-03-2016

23rd and Shower is prepped ready for chip seal any day. Not a dead end like 33rd/32nd Makuu so it will be interesting to see how it holds up. They've already had some irregularities with the dead end roads.

Too bad this isn't a 1 yr test road before they move on. If it fails, it's too late. They'll have already spent way over $350,000.

I've asked for 3/4" material for my road. It's time. Still waiting for a month or more now.

Makes no sense.

Don't 99% of those who have a box in the current clusters, already drive to their mailbox? This won't be any different.

Anyway, I would assume that the whole "private roads" thing is why the post office won't deliver to every address. The cluster boxes were just a compromise that the post office agreed to.

I don't.
Most of my neighbors don't.
If mail delivery was converted to two large centralized locations, all of us would need to drive. In my case, no driving would increase to approximately 33 additional miles in my car per week.

Perhaps you missed some of kalakoa's recent (and not so recent) comments which suggests smaller more conveniently located areas zoned for shopping and other daily activities could reduce excess driving now necessary for life in Puna.

The location of HPP mailboxes follows the same principal.

The 1997 HPP Survey and the 2008 PCDP suggest the same thing, but the actual development continues not to happen.

Highway 130 widening isn't keeping up with the growth, either.

Keepin' it country, right?

The HPP Playground Grand Opening will be May 1st Sunday 10-1pm at the Activity Center.

The playground is designed for children 3-12 years old and will be a safe, healthy, fun, and welcoming place.

Please get the word out to your neighbors and friends in HPP with small children to attend the grand opening.

The Hawaiian Blessing is at 10am followed by balloon art, face painting, food, drinks and should be a fun time for all.

Mahalo to the Playground Committee and all the volunteers for the planning, designing, and building of the playground. A very Big Mahalo especially to Judy and Peter Houle who were the constant driving force and energy behind making this playground a reality all the way to the grand opening planning. They contributed many hours on their days off from work and should be commended.

Hopes are to also build 2 roofed areas in the playground through neighbors willing to volunteer their carpentry skills and monetary donations to make this happen.

Big Mahalo again to the Houles and all the volunteers!
