RE: New fee when you visit Maku'u Farmers market - ericlp - 05-02-2014 Remember when you go next sunday have a handful of pennies to give out. ![]() ![]() RE: New fee when you visit Maku'u Farmers market - uneedawish - 05-09-2014 Don't forget to have your $1.00 ready for Sundays Maku'u Farmers Market's new parking fee. No change will be given! RE: New fee when you visit Maku'u Farmers market - Derrick Barnicoat - 05-09-2014 The complaints seem really petty. The vendors aren't happy or outgoing?Parking is nutty? Really? So what are you going for the produce, the attitude, a pleasant parking and leaving experience? Still better than bananas from ecuador. Still cheaper than the super market. Still better than anything else similar in all 50 states. Don't take your options for granted folks. RE: New fee when you visit Maku'u Farmers market - dayna - 05-09-2014 I'm not taking my options for granted. I'm choosing to exercise my options and go to the Pahoa Market. ![]() Dayna http://www.FarmingAloha.com www.E-Z-Caps.com RE: New fee when you visit Maku'u Farmers market - Derrick Barnicoat - 05-09-2014 There you go! That's what I'm talking about. Puna has so many options why waste your thoughts on the details that just aren't that big of a deal. I mean where else do you have so many wonderful farmers markets to choose from. When I was at the Hilo market vendors were saying I should check out the Maku'u market. But, you know, go where ever floats your boats. I find so often people are just looking of things to be negative about. RE: New fee when you visit Maku'u Farmers market - mearth11 - 05-09-2014 It's just that I, for one, am tired of being nickel-and-dimed to death. That my local farmers' market has jumped on that bandwagon is such a drag. If it is such a good cause, perhaps they could just request donations, say, suggest $1.00. Perhaps they would make more as some would give more. A request for donations should also be easier for a non-profit to handle bureaucratically. To be forced to pay to park ANYwhere on the Big Island is, well, unheard of. RE: New fee when you visit Maku'u Farmers market - kalakoa - 05-09-2014 There are parking meters outside the State and Federal buildings in downtown Hilo. ...which sort of proves the point: "no, we're not part of your County, you pay to visit!" RE: New fee when you visit Maku'u Farmers market - Guest - 05-09-2014 This way of thinking is why we have more taxes and laws every year and not less. This is why the parking charge will be $2 next year. If county buildings, and farmers markets can impose parking fees in a parking free city or district, Then Walmarts, Targets, Kta's, Banks, restaurants are not far behind and should all start charging for Parking, they do have to pay the taxes for that space( Luquin paid like 1 million for that crappie parking lot Next to his restaurant) . I thought Community places like the market were to try and help the community and farmers do more business not less, Instead Special organizations(HHL) build, grow, and or prosper also given special allowances on their permits Were other's aren't. Our community should be looking at ways to make this market closer, safer, cheaper, with more conveniences for our future farmers market patrons. For example: A 7-day a week farmers market Somewhere off the most dangerous highway in the state would be a good start to cater to more farmers harvests, tourism, and local patrons. Say behind Malama market where you could tie in other errands or shopping at the same time. This may force the county and state to put in the proper infrastructure, bypasses, lights, ect at the new center of town. P.S I would like to be able to roam the market while I am waiting for my tires to be changed, or the wife is shopping so I could cruse the market for 20 minutes. RE: New fee when you visit Maku'u Farmers market - Derrick Barnicoat - 05-09-2014 Nickel and dining is the american way. Clearly americans a precious and cheap when it comes to money so unfortunately there aren't to many generous people out there. Everywhere I have lived has places you need to pay to park. In Brooklyn I am lucky to live in a neighborhood that doesn't have meters yet but everywhere else does. Even the flea market I used to live by in Cape Cod had a 50 cent parking fee. This is a capitalist country and, don't get me wrong, I am not in support of profit over everything, but in Hawaii it is not that bad and in Puna it is especially not that bad. It's all relative I guess. I mean if you want to just leave NYC you have to pay a toll. Even if you want to go to Staten Island a borough in the same city it is 18 bucks to just cross the bridge. If you miss your exit and get on the bridge that is an 18 dollar mistake. It's all relative. RE: New fee when you visit Maku'u Farmers market - missydog1 - 05-09-2014 quote:Those meters help keep the parking available for people who come to do short term business like drop something off. If not for meters, the parking for the Lagoon Center Building would spill over and it would always be full at the State Building. |
