RE: More update specifics needed on power, phone, etc - bluesboy - 08-12-2014 quit taking it as an insult and start taking it as an action plan. it sucks to do work, but it sucks even worse when the work was preventable. RE: More update specifics needed on power, phone, etc - missydog1 - 08-12-2014 I am with Carol and very glad she spoke up. It is obnoxious even if unintentional. How about starting a "ways to convey to self-sufficient energy" topic for those who want to learn, and stop hijacking all the topics bragging about your great systems and wagging your fingers at everyone who lives differently. Statements like there's no excuse now it's this Price or that. Do you not know any people/families who don't even have $200 extra to spend, much less 2 thousand? I do. Who cares if it eventually pays for itself if one doesn't have the money to get started? Hey, if it's so affordable for you all, maybe you could team to donate systems to those who don't have the means? Otherwise please stop judging people. Especially when you don't know a thing about their lives and circumstances. RE: More update specifics needed on power, phone, etc - Obie - 08-12-2014 "and stop hijacking all the topics " Kind of funny to see this posted by a person who many times posts"When I was in Berkeley"or"when I lived(fill in the blank)" Always has to have the last word too !! RE: More update specifics needed on power, phone, etc - Carey - 08-12-2014 More update specifics needed on power, phone, etc please back to topic. This is a very important topic for those without these services & want to know if anyone has information... People without these services may also look to see if the services you are paying for can be placed on "vacation" mode until you are able to use them (as one thread on Sat service was able to do) RE: More update specifics needed on power, phone, etc - robguz - 08-12-2014 Latest update from HELCO says up to 3 weeks to get everyone hooked up, some pockets may take longer, but these estimates are preliminary. I don't think anyone is surprised by that at this point. Seems they got another 1300 customers hooked up yesterday. Each customer means about 3 people. That's more progress than I expected and the tripling of the work force started today. http://www.hawaiielectriclight.com/helco/_hidden_Hidden/Power-restoration-update-from-Hawaii-Electric-Light-for-Iselle-relief-effort?cpsextcurrchannel=1 RE: More update specifics needed on power, phone, etc - Obie - 08-12-2014 They have been telling Vacationland that and 4 to 6 weeks for land line phones. http://www.amazon.com/Hyundai-HY2000si-2200-Watt-Portable-Generator/dp/B004919NEK/ref=sr_1_1?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1407882358&sr=1-1 1 to 2 day delivery is $175.00 This is the kind of generator you need to buy if you have a newer model fridge or you want to run electronic equipment. Honda's are about $1000.00 for the same size. Edit to add. AT&T cell service is now working in Vacationland and Verizon has been on for some time. Also please stay away,Neighborhood watch is not allowing non residents to enter the community. RE: More update specifics needed on power, phone, etc - redefinehappy - 08-12-2014 Re: generators. We ran into a lady from Kapoho today who had just ordered a generator off of Amazon and said with Prime membership it was free 1-2 day delivery. Not sure what size generator or what she spent. Cheers -Allison I do not fear computers, I fear the lack of them. - Isaac Asimov RE: More update specifics needed on power, phone, etc - macuu222 - 08-12-2014 Broadband Internet is back on in lower HPP from ocean to about 13th. RE: More update specifics needed on power, phone, etc - robguz - 08-12-2014 AT&T signal was back on in Seaview from last evening until before noon. Their data signal also worked. It stopped working again a couple hours before it went down totally again before noon. RE: More update specifics needed on power, phone, etc - terracore - 08-12-2014 Just as an FYI a 2,000 watt generator may not power a catchment water pump. These types of pumps have huge startup loads. (Some 1,200 watt "running" pumps require nearly 6,000 watts of startup power) Of course, everybody's pump is different, but our pump BARELY kicks on, and the generator struggles, with a 3,500 watt generator (but we were very glad to have it). Our 2,500 watt system just laughed at us when we tried. Check to see if your pump is dual 120/220 which means it was essentially designed to run off of 220 but "can" run off of 120, but won't start on a 2,000 or maybe even 3,000 watt generator. (These are usually well pumps). If your lights dim when your pump turns on, something in the 3,500 watt range should be the minimum. I'm not an electrician or expert, these are just my experiences. YMMV. |
