RE: Puna Driving Tips - KeaauRich - 05-01-2018 Slower traffic using the left lane on 130 doesn't actually bother me. They all appear to be timid as well, so it's easy to duck in and out of their lane to get around cars slowing to actually make a right turn. A) frequently those driving slower in the left lane are riding side by side with people driving the same speed in the right lane, creating a moving roadblock B) while you're "ducking in and out of their lane to get around cars slowing to actually turn right," are you also keeping tabs on the fools illegally speeding up the shoulder lane or the meth-heads coming in the opposite direction who can't seem to stay in their own lanes. BTW, a friendly word of advice: When offering advice or a comment, starting any sentence with the words "As a mainlander who visits often" will immediately alienate about 75% of the local resident audience. RE: Puna Driving Tips - birdmove - 05-01-2018 1. You must tailgate the car in front of you no matter how fast they are going. 2.You get extra points for tailgating at night and blinding the driver ahead of you. 3.Extra for tailgating in HPP at night, so the driver ahead of you can't read the street names and numbers. 4.Feel free to dart in and out of lanes in the quest to save a few seconds. 5.Turn signals? We don't need no stinking turn signals here. 6. If the car ahead of you insists on doing the speed limit, or 5 mph over, honk, flash your lights, flip off the people in that car. Even with all the above, other drivers here are very generous about letting others into traffic. Jon in Keaau/HPP RE: Puna Driving Tips - ElysianWort - 05-01-2018 It's encouraged to not be content with your lane of traffic even though you're traveling faster than the speed limit and be sure to dart back and forth in front of other vehicles, forcing drivers to brake and leave a safe distance between them and the car in front only to have his brother following and dart into that safe space just created. And his cousin darts next... When parking, (and this has happened to me), it's encouraged to zip front first into a spot only after you spot another car trying to slowly and safely back in. RE: Puna Driving Tips - Durian Fiend - 05-02-2018 You've really pushed my buttons here. So true, and so annoying to me. I wish people would leave that aggressive driving poison on the mainland, or just give it up entirely. Highway 130 should not be confused with the 24 hrs of Le Mans. RE: Puna Driving Tips - Elkad - 05-02-2018 quote: Sure. Speeding up in the shoulder lane is smart, even if it is illegal. Helps everyone (assuming people pay attention). Dodging methheads is not a local phenomenon. I get plenty of that at home too. Except at home the roads are a lot narrower and have worse visibility. Inserting "as a mainlander" was deliberate. I'm well aware of the response it gets. Call it a small troll to keep the discussion going. I'll keep visiting family in Puna anyway. And occasionally dropping by this forum to check for volcano/quake news, which is why I came back by here for the first time in years. The national coverage is inadequate, and it's relevant to me. RE: Puna Driving Tips - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 05-02-2018 to keep the discussion (about bad driving) going. ... And occasionally dropping by this forum to check for volcano/quake news Imagine what happens if you combine the two, a lava outbreak with bad driving. I hope we won't find out. Portion of Hawaii’s drinking water that comes from underground wells : 9/10 Gallons of raw sewage that leak into the ground from Hawaii cesspools each day : 53,000,000 - Harper's Index RE: Puna Driving Tips - Kapoho Joe - 05-02-2018 Actually, considering that lava is flowing under highway 130 at this moment, we might find out very soon... RE: Puna Driving Tips - Mimosa - 05-02-2018 Elkad -Our truck is lifted - If for what ever reason we can not see you - you will be toast. This is not the stainland - keep your idiotic driving from where you came from PLEASE. Yes we sometimes go 50mph in the slow lane on 130. If you insist on cutting in front of us and we must slam brake - our dash cam will record you and unko blue light will take it from there. The ER is in Hilo - not puna . Drive with Aloha . Mrs.Mimosa and Ohana RE: Puna Driving Tips - kalakoa - 05-02-2018 we sometimes go 50mph in the slow lane on 130 Speeding like that is neither legal nor safe! RE: Puna Driving Tips - Mimosa - 05-02-2018 Yes correct - very illegal to go 5mph over speed limit in slow lane - while others pass us like we are standing still or the odd ball passing everyone on the shoulder inbound to hilo - where bicyclists ride.Only in the 4 lane section from shower to kea'au dump .Otherwise we do the exact speed limit as posted by law which is 45mph. 2 days ago some clown was doing 25mph from shower to kea'au dump in the passing fast lane - we gave the dash cam to unko blue light who is a nephew and they went to visit him in H.P.P.............
