RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - beepbeep - 01-25-2015 Sigh. Please pass the potato chips. Pam in CA RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - TomK - 01-25-2015 The proof's here, Pam, you can't deny it! http://youtu.be/3RGRyTGUbv4 RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 01-26-2015 Tom - I checked 13.1 & 13.2 this morning, and they're both broadcasting although the signal seems on the weak side. Both were out a week or two ago, don't know when they returned to the air as I haven't watched OTA since the NFC conference championship (thankfully on 11.1). RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - macuu222 - 01-26-2015 13.1 and 13.2 cannot be picked up in lower HPP. Even tried a 20ft pole on top of my roof with a signal enhancer. But friends in Fern acres have no problem. RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 01-26-2015 I'm on Beach Road in lower HPP, and get both 13.1 & 13.2. Some days it's perfect, on other days like today it breaks up from time to time. Their transmitters are on top the Hilo Hawaiian. Print a Google map and align your antenna from your home to the Hilo Hawaiian. It has to be an exact alignment or the stations won't come in. There's no wiggle room as with 4.1, 10.1, 11.1, etc. RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - macuu222 - 01-26-2015 Wow..that's interesting. I'm on 5th off Makuu towards the end of the subdivision. I may be too far out...I've pointed it towards the Hilo Hawaiian direction and it won't pick up. RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 01-26-2015 I just upgraded my antenna to a 20"x30" which works fine all of the time for every channel except 13.1 & 13.2. Those two stations come in a good deal of the time but not consistently, so if I were to buy again I think I'd go even larger (I'm thinking of trying a signal booster first). The antenna is inside in a window, on the 2nd story, in the middle part of HPP near the ocean. RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - H22 - 01-26-2015 macuu222, Channel 13.1/13.2 has a really bad signal in lower HPP according to the coverage maps. They put out a lot of power and use a great frequency, but their transmit antenna is just in a horrible spot. They put out 8,000 watts. Our 15 watt transmitter in Mountain View provides a signal that is 3 times stronger in lower HPP. It's all about transmit antenna location. They are pumping a massive signal over an area with almost no population between Kilauea and Saddle Road. But they are missing the most populated part of Puna. The oversimplify it, they are providing a killer signal over Hilo, but just Hilo. If they provided a lobe that covered Puna, they would almost double the number of households that they hit with that saturating signal. RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - H22 - 01-26-2015 HereOnThePrimalEdge, If you zoom in on lower HPP on this map, you'll see what the problem is with Channel 13.1/13.2: http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=601141&map=Y Wish I could fix it. If you're getting a new antenna for only reception of channel 13.1/13.2, I recommend getting an antenna cut for "RF Channel 22". Also, if the antenna is *just* for 13.1/13.2, the higher gain and more directional, the better. But make sure the gain is optimized for RF Channel 22. RE: OTA tv channels after this storm - TomK - 01-27-2015 Jeez, I see channel 45 has switched back to NBC for this evening... |
