RE: District 4 Council - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 08-14-2018

Article in the Trib-Herald yesterday about the District 4 race and it's aftermath. It's a short article but the part worth reading are the 80 comments (at the moment) following the story - - it's an eye opener. As Rob says, government officials are happy to let the people in Puna start arguing among themselves, then they can go home. I didn't make it through all 80 arguments... it was too dispiriting. If you do try and read them, remember, many/most of the comments come from voters in our district. They are occasionally right in front of you at the checkout line.

I was following these comments online since right after the article broke...I lurk but don't contribute to the T-H due to the low level of discourse. In particular, this article attracted an interesting back and forth between two supporters of the candidates. The AK supporter (Demi God) believes that the EO supporter (Little Me) is actually the real EO using a nom de plumme. Together they're possibly 50 % of the comments.

Of note, some of these comments contain harsher language than is acceptable on Punaweb, which is of course a moderated site. It's a reminder of how with every market, in this case information and debate, management matters.

In regards to the article, it seemed that AK was responding to general post election newspaper Q&A which preceded the reporters interview with EO, who had a particular agenda of issues she needed to get off her chest. She seemed to want to keep it on these issues and complaints but did get a little dismissive of her opponent when she identified her as "Miss Ashley".

AK on the other hand seemed to be in a post-electoral afterglow and the only direct reference made to EO was complementary, "...I think the lava flow, with our response as a community to act and to serve, I think it shows what the incumbent and I are made of

I doubt she would have made that comment if she had known what the sitting councilwoman was about to vent, a veritable Fissure 8 of grievances.

HiloPuna,
Good synopsis.
I believe you've summed up the article, and its subsequent commentary perfectly.

Mahalo for the kind words, I’ve often enjoyed your perspective or turn of phrase and not taken the time to appreciate it as you just did of me.
