RE: Refund Checks - TomK - 11-15-2022 randomq - for the software you buy, it obviously has to be updated each year because tax laws change. Do you have to buy the updated software again for the same price, or do you get a discounted software update? Apologies for asking these questions, I haven't had the time to do my own research on this. I'm just trying to find out if buying the software might be a better option than using the online versions. Thanks. RE: Refund Checks - kalianna - 11-15-2022 Can you please use a different term than, "... do my own research" We're all a little sensitive about that phrase right now. :-) RE: Refund Checks - randomq - 11-15-2022 I dID mY OwN reSeArcH on this and... Yes, you have to buy a completely new edition each year, but it is able to import your returns from the previous year. Typically it can also import from a variety of other tax software and IIRC PDFs of a previous return. RE: Refund Checks - TomK - 11-16-2022 kalianna - I got someone else to do the research, hope that's acceptable! ![]() randomq - thanks! I suspect I'll stick with the online version even if it's a little more expensive just for convenience, but I'll look into it a bit later this year. Thanks again for the info. RE: Refund Checks - terracore - 11-17-2022 I use Tax Act free edition. Free federal, $40 state. I previously used (paid) Turbo Tax, but several years ago I was almost finished with my taxes and their web site kept puking out an error so I couldn't finish them. I was at the deadline and had to do something, found TaxAct free, and did them there without any problems, and I never went back. I found them on the web site the IRS has that shows free tax preparation options. RE: Refund Checks - Chas - 11-17-2022 "I found them on the web site the IRS has that shows free tax preparation options." That's how I found olt.com. It does end up costing me $15 for some reason. I think it's for the ability to save previous years returns, which is WELL worth it. It pre fills most of the data with last year's info. Still much cheaper than others seem to be willing to pay. RE: Refund Checks - kalianna - 12-03-2022 I saw that and emailed them to ask why we haven't received ours. tax.refunds@hawaii.gov RE: Refund Checks - AaronM - 12-04-2022 Fuck Turbo Tax. Besides offering a bloated and error prone piece of software, they consistently lobby against free and direct efile for taxpayers. https://www.propublica.org/article/inside-turbotax-20-year-fight-to-stop-americans-from-filing-their-taxes-for-free https://www.opensecrets.org/news/2022/06/members-of-congress-call-for-an-investigation-of-intuits-lobbying-practices-amid-mounting-turbotax-controversies/ (If random links startle you, feel free to keep scrolling) |
