RE: rocket landing off of Hawaii - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-14-2023 Elon says Starship launch with splashdown near Hawaii could come as soon as this Friday, Nov 17: https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1724271004044644800?s=61 Link to SpaceX for live launch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6na40SqzYnU (And in further news from the Musk-man, first Cybertruck deliveries Nov 30, with a clause that owners can’t sell for a year) RE: rocket landing off of Hawaii - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-18-2023 Looks like launch is possible for tomorrow, Saturday 11/18, the actuator fin which caused the delay has been replaced. Here’s a view of Starbase this week: https://x.com/tobimuelhauser/status/1725383062349807733?s=61 RE: rocket landing off of Hawaii - TomK - 11-18-2023 For anyone still awake, the launch is two hours away at the time of writing. The live youtube link to the launch is here: https://www.youtube.com/live/uOI35G7cP7o?si=QV07wby4TlmFXlhi https://www.youtube.com/live/6na40SqzYnU?si=usglZohv9r9nmQtq for an amateurs' view. If all goes well, the second stage will touch down about 60 or 70 miles northwest of Kauai later tonight, but is not something you will likely be able to see from the Big Island. RE: rocket landing off of Hawaii - TomK - 11-18-2023 It just launched. It looks as though the launch was successful, the 1st stage had to be blown up after separation (a more than spectacular explosion), and the second stage continued but had to be "terminated" a few minutes later when it was nearly at the end of its burn. I think SpaceX will consider that a big success. RE: rocket landing off of Hawaii - TomK - 11-19-2023 Worth watching this video from Scott Manley. It's speculation but he does know his stuff. https://youtu.be/hF2C7xE9Mj4?si=Kl70CMh2W3E9fzkt RE: rocket landing off of Hawaii - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-20-2023 TomK, Thanks for the link to Scott Manley. Starship progress is made in steps. It’s easy to forget how many Redstone & Atlas rockets blew up on the launchpad, then a few feet above the launchpad, before they eventually flew into space. RE: rocket landing off of Hawaii - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 03-12-2024 Starship 3 could launch in the next few weeks. The new splashdown site won’t be Hawaii however, reentry is now planned for the Indian Ocean. RE: rocket landing off of Hawaii - terracore - 03-13-2024 (03-12-2024, 08:30 PM)HereOnThePrimalEdge Wrote: Starship 3 could launch in the next few weeks. Makes sense. That's closer to where TMT will probably eventually be built. RE: rocket landing off of Hawaii - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 03-13-2024 Possible launch time: Thursday March 14,2024 2 AM HST https://www.spacex.com/launches/mission/?missionId=starship-flight-3 RE: rocket landing off of Hawaii - TomK - 03-15-2024 There's a very good summary by Scott Manley of the recent mission along with videos from SpaceX at https://youtu.be/8htMpR7mnaM?si=RC2kCa4KhiGLUWJv. No matter what opinions you might hold about SpaceX, they excel at showing live on-board videos. These were the best I have ever seen of a launch and in sub-orbit from a spacecraft. |
