RE: Gunshots heard all around HPP lastnight - Greg - 09-28-2009 Maybe, but not all gunshots sound like backfires. Especially if multiple shots are fired from a revolver or semi auto. I jump at a backfire(or firecracker), but can immediatly recognize it for what it is. When a neighbor of mine occasionally fired off several rounds, no one around was confused about what it was. punatoons RE: Gunshots heard all around HPP lastnight - Bullwinkle - 09-28-2009 most modern vehicles have an "anti backfire valve" an emissions control device. It cuts off the fuel during de acceleration. If drippy, leaky or removed they can sound 100% like semi automatic fire .... especially a 1000 or so cc pocket rocket with the valve removed. "performance" or simply being 19 being the most common reasons. Im not saying there is not a lot of random gun fire in puna but there are also a lot of bad de accel valves out there mechanics ear |
