Just checked the camera at Pu'u O'o and it shows some real nice color in the early morning sunshine. Lots of activity around the rim of the perched lake.

I have a question to those who don't live in zone 3.How you can be so excited about the lava going your way? Have another house ,not a big deal to lose one?

Excited? You must have not been here long (just an observation not a slur). It is exciting and yes, possibly scary. But as we all know who watched the lava head to Pahoa a few years ago - the estimate was almost 13 months I think before it was to hit Hwy 130. And it stopped a long way before that. Thats a long time to be scared. You gotta have a little levity in this Armageddon of a world!

If I had to choose Lava Zone 2 or Tornado alley, or the flood areas? Not a tough choice in my particular book, especially this year.

If the lava starts flowing down the hill again, the money also starts flowing to the East side again more than the last few months. You also can take a long look at the topography to see roughly where it might go and I have heard guestimates that it will be the park side.

As for the flow prediction dates, it was just in fun. It could erupt in the east rift zone above us at any time. A little gallows humor keeps me from being a crazy survivalist OMG buy gold need a gun the world is ending tomorrow person. Instead, knowing what is happening means you can prepare but still enjoy whatever time is left.

No offense meant to the crazy survivalist OMG buy gold need a gun the world is ending tomorrow people.

Cat, it was some interesting times when the lava just stayed perched up on top of the ridge... I think everybody was wondering what direction it was going to go.... Personally, I was glad it went back over the pali!

Cory and I drove Chain of Craters Road today, and are so impressed with the physical presence of all that lava. All of what we saw probably terrified humans during the original flows. Layers on layers. Keeps the thought in your mind, it could happen anywhere, because it already has!

Life goes on, with you or without you.

what an amazing and beautiful feat of nature.

The nighttime view gives a better indication of where the lava is. Won't be long now.

According to the lava report this morning, short flows started erupting past the little sub craters last night. So far no sustained flows, but it is moving outside of Pu'u O'o crater now.

edited to add the link to the new webcam that looks at the flow outside the crater: http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/hvo/cams/PWcam/
