RE: HPP road maintainence - Katarina - 03-07-2017

Yesterday I posted on HPP mailbox topic but should have put it on this thread. Over the weekend my husband drove down 26th(i think, I am not able to confirm) and said it looked prepped for chip seal but there was no base coarse and t
he road had not been rolled. Very bumpy and uneven. If they are putting chip seal straight on dirt how long will that last? We have truly been hoodwinked and if we think it it is costly now, just wait til all the roads fall apart. The ones who created this mess will have abandoned ship by then.

The ones who created this mess will have abandoned ship by then.

Just like the forefathers who created our wonderful "agricultural" subdivisions.

It won't last as 23rds got potholes already. Over $80,300.00 a mile..prob over $90,000 a mile counting the outsourcing of the maint of our main drags, the labor costs of our road crew and outsourcing of the clearing of the roads before they get CS'd. All without OUR vote first, no board vote and no test road. And they're also wasting our $$$ spot dropping that crappy cheap stuff so they can save $$$ for CS. Cheap material = dusty roads.

RE: HPP road maintainence - mermaid53 - 03-11-2017

Today my husband I decided to drive down a couple diff roads on our way back from town. We took Paradise and 3rd and Paradise and 5th. Both are red cinder roads. It didn't look like any red cinder had been laid down in a couple years minimum on either of the 2 roads. They had some potholes but what stood out was there was NO DUST. We looked down a cross street off of Kaloli and saw a pile of dust behind someone traveling down a road w/grey powder. What a contrast....

Red cinder might be what we need to get back to??? And why do some roads still have red cinder???? Does anyone know?

RE: HPP road maintainence - Hmmm - 03-11-2017

seems to be the board is trying to say hpp maintenance is doing the chip seal if this is the case the cost on this would be approx 29000$ for oil 7000$ for chips trucking 2 trucks at 120$hour 8hrs-1920$ labor 2 operators at 25$ hr 3 labors at 17$ hr for 40 hrs -(total overkill in labor) and rental of chip spreader 1000$ weekly rate
So this all adds up to just over 43000$ this is a high estimate for grading and chip seal of 1 mile of road ..and hpp is paying how much? Members need to ask for a copy of contract they have entered into with unlicensed person or if they claim hpp maintenance is performing ask for all payroll records trucking invoices materials invoices and rental invoices..remember all loans and bonds stipulate compliance with all state and fed laws private roads do not exempt hpp from this ... This would assume hpp maintenance could not self perform this job ..the maintenance manager they say has a contractors license..truth being he had a license.. not anymore.. he doesnt ..it is not active therefor he is not a licenced contractor.. however if he was Licensed it would be a conflict to run under his license ..1000$ and over require a licensed professional
Would u have a janitor give you heart transplant?

RE: HPP road maintainence - My 2 cents - 03-12-2017

"Would u have a janitor give you heart transplant?"

No, but I also wouldn't want it done by a doctor who got his "license" because Daddy bought the college a new wing. Just sayin', a license doesn't guarantee competence or honesty. The opposite is true as well.

This is a generalization, not intended to be a yay or nay comment on your chip seal fun.

RE: HPP road maintainence - Hmmm - 03-12-2017

A license has all the benefits of any repercussions to fix any incomplete or incompetence in work it has all insurances etc without that you get what you get good bad or the ugly also to get a general license in the state of hawaii is not so easy as you may think it is..

RE: HPP road maintainence - alaskyn66 - 03-12-2017

Chip seal is not the best solution. While it works fine for driveways ...heavy traffic areas will see potholes and chunks missing within 5 to 10 years. The roads need to be resurfaced, ( or surfaced) not mickey moused.

Do you really want to waste money putting lipstick on a pig.

Have you driven down 23rd/Shower and looked at the chip seal Hmmm?

I see there's some patch jobs on the potholes but what the heck happened with the chip seal job itself? All along the entire road are striations where there's uneven application. Amateurish results that could be doomed for failure. There's no way this is caused by normal traffic.

So what is your estimate of costs per mile Hmmm? mermaid had posted the GM report said over $80,000 per mile.

I think that would be a great finishing touch to the project. See if the Tribune Herald could be there for a picture. They could enter it under the "Community Events" section of the paper.

A shade of "chip seal black" and finishing touches of white $$$$ signs on the sows lips would be outstanding!
