RE: Eh Rob, How long you gonna let this B.S. go on? - punafish - 06-26-2014 How about we all respect and learn from each other? Just a thought. RE: Eh Rob, How long you gonna let this B.S. go on? - protoss - 06-26-2014 Respect the conquerors not the conquered, you might learn something tit for tat you rude human 'Your whole idea about yourself is borrowed-- borrowed from those who have no idea of who they are themselves.' RE: Eh Rob, How long you gonna let this B.S. go on? - protoss - 06-26-2014 "How about we all respect and learn from each other? Just a thought." Could not agree more punafish It's all the "Cliven Bundy's" out there on the BI that think they are superior because of where they came into the world. Sadly a lot of times the reason for it is because they have nothing else to justify their existence 'Your whole idea about yourself is borrowed-- borrowed from those who have no idea of who they are themselves.' RE: Eh Rob, How long you gonna let this B.S. go on? - Super8 - 06-26-2014 quote: Interesting sentiment and duly noted. Had to look up on Clive because I wasn't familiar with the name and I came across this from salon.com, http://www.salon.com/2014/06/23/gun_nuts_are_terrorizing_america_the_watershed_moment_everyone_missed/ This seems to be the most common type of ideas concerning our 2nd amendment rights when coming from anti 2nd ammendment types. I wonder what they think would happen if all the guns in the US were gone? Interesting because your post, protoss, in the UFO thread mentioned a "show of force" being necessary or important? Maybe that was humor? I maintain that the largest standing army in the world is the us citizenry. And as such, is the best deterrence to invasion or attack. I don't have as much faith in my fellow human beings as the obviously well intentioned anti 2nd's. (Most of whom have never left the country) So, I thought it interesting that you would mention the Bundy incident. The story can be spun any way you like. We live in an age so full of tyranny that you really can't get anything done unless you have a deep pocket and an army of lawyers. This, in the country that still bills itself as free. Sure, there are nuts out there. Most are harmless, but there comes a point for every man where they either break and become submissive to said tyranny (death imo) or they do something about it as much as a man can. This is seen throughout history. I would suggest that the people you are referring to are feeling that same tyranny and, right or wrong, are misplacing their frustration. Not everyone is all that smart and racism is an easy-to-use (and encouraged) behavior. Maybe ol Clive was doing something about that tyranny we feel or maybe he just was staging a big and perilous event to avoid taxes. Hard to say without being Cliven Bundy. I guess I thought it was a bit of a stretch to liken Cliven Bundy to a native born with napoleon syndrome. But I will say that I respect ones that practice stewardship. Taking ownership of a place is one thing, but practicing stewardship is cause for respect. There are plenty of terdballs out there that say they love their country and then go down the road flicking cigarette butts out the window. I wouldn't want to see the Hawaiian culture die and be forgotten. Like a language that isn't spoken. Like customs that aren't observed. If it isn't used, it deteriorates and eventually is lost. Same with the 2nd ammendment. (Exercising that right doesn't mean going around shooting something or some one every once in a while, but open carry is an effective way to remind us of the right and to start a conversation. No one person can be the spokesman and you might be concerned with some people's ideas about it. Same for what some "natives" might say about being native vs being a transplant, too.) If you want respect, then deserve it, even though you might not always get it (ie Mimosa). Not in the self esteem movement's definition of respect, either. Protoss, your signature line is great. There are a lot of zombies out there walking around without an original thought in their heads, regurgitating talking points, opinions, and the latest "in style" viewpoints gathered from magazines, tv, and social media. They have no purpose other than to serve the " hive mentality" and to vanquish all opposition to it. A la "They Live!" Literally the walking dead. The next evolution in survival is being able to recognize this type of individual. Pity them, for they have been brainwashed. Blood is no cause for respect either. It only serves to feed the body to perform works which are the great determiners of true respect as true respect is always earned and never indiscriminately just given (as courtesy should be). Those who cast out their "respect" in such a way do not truly give respect, even to themselves and are usually dangerous people to be around. Those who accept such "respect" do not truly respect themselves either. It ought to be earned of your own darn self first anyway, because then it doesn't matter. That's clean heart living. I know 2nd ammendment stuff is taboo here, but I am certain all these things are related. Respect, Bundy, born here's, guns, forthrightness, civil disobedience, national security, zombies etc... all related. I'll risk banishment or full on banning, because I sincerely believe that the final outcome of the 2nd Ammendment debate effects us all and I'm really tired of the digs that are allowed to go unchecked. It should go both ways. Immediately. Sorry Mr.Tucker, it just feels like only one side of the issue is acceptable to be voiced and the other is quickly silenced. Please forgive me if I am wrong. Sorry for the book. Here's some entertainmenthttps://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&ei=ZVOtU86uIcqysQSd4oDoBw&url=http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DGhxqIITtTtU&cd=1&ved=0CBwQtwIwAA&usg=AFQjCNFup6SGFfd8VQMEd4gQqPjMHtydZw&sig2=T4Hn35Nz4D5enqyE6z8RMg One last thing, protoss. Can you please explain why you cited Cliven Bundy specifically as the example of people who "think they are superior because of where they came into the world?" Just to clarify for my own understanding. Thank you. [8] RE: Eh Rob, How long you gonna let this B.S. go on? - Derrick Barnicoat - 06-27-2014 You need to research more about Cliven Bundy. He is a complicated character and an outright racist. Plus his family was not the first people on that land even though they have grazed cattle on that land for a century. The first people on that land paid their dues and the ones that were left alive continue to pay grazing fees. Those people might help you understand why generations deep locals and native Hawaiians might make exclamations of pride and assert that they were born here. It is a reminder to not treat them as if they are invisible. You can see this in many areas that have been throttled by imperialism. The black americans who are descended from slaves tend to assert themselves and their heritage for a similar reason because they have been pushed all over the map for centuries and they have developed ways over time to let those who do the pushing know that they are still there and not disposable. This Cliven Bundy reference though has little to do with Puna though and very little to do with people showing pride about where they were born. Cliven Bundy is a sick man and makes us americans look like a joke. Not really an appropriate comparison. People exclaiming pride about where they are from doesn't have anything to do with how they view other people. It is a statement regarding pride in their heritage and the land. If this threatens you or hurts your feelings. You need to take a look at yourself. In America culture is stolen and a poor replacement is sold back to people, like ham and pineapple pizza. So it is important to hold your culture close to your heart. Someone can be proud of where they were born and still love their neighbor. This is the land of aloha for crying out loud. Mainlanders do have much to learn from those who were already here. Just like Cliven Bundy has allot to learn from the native Americans who have been on that land much longer than him. I mean imagine a bunch of Hawaiians rolled up on a government building with a bunch of guns demanding their land back. There would be a blood bath but Cliven Bundy's racist a** does it and they give the land back even though they have been breaking the law. This type of stuff make all you 2nd amendment people look bad and like you support white supremacy. There is nothing comparable to that in the Hawaiian culture. For the record, I think people should maintain the right to bear arms but people who are crazy, like Cliven Bundy, should be able to be identified and kept away from guns. RE: Eh Rob, How long you gonna let this B.S. go on? - birchl - 06-27-2014 If there is a nation in this world with a superiority complex, I wouldn't of said it was hawaii there are in fact a few contenders, but this isn't one if them! I, personally, have only ever been treated with aloha by local people since the very first day I arrived. One explanation is that I am friendly. Another is that I sound British and England somehow gets a pass on the whole haole thing. One way or another, it is my personal experience of 20 yrs, that as a nation, it is America that has the least respect for themselves, each other, their communities, the environment, and the entire rest of the world. As a nation America lives in hypocrisy so overwhelming that is has become a mockery to all other nations. I cannot begin to understand how that has happened, but I people watch the whole time. It is the middle class Americans that drive like they own the road. It is the Americans that litter. They are rude to service workers. They are disrespectful to each other, and allow their children to disrespect them. That is not to say that America is not an awesome place filled with awesome people. It absolutely is and does. Even most Americans do not realize the awesomeness of their land. It is spectacular. Across some 20 odd states I was met with kindness and respect in every single one, but nowhere in the world have I experienced the aloha that exists here. The fact that I have 'flown here' has apparently simply made me a wealth of stories. I have never felt disrespect in that. Some times we react to imagined prejudice instead of real ones. You read about local resistance to newcomers, so that's what you see. If you walk around with a big grin on your face, people smile back. #10048; RE: Eh Rob, How long you gonna let this B.S. go on? - csgray - 06-27-2014 I composed a long response to this about how kids from the mainland are treated when their parents move them here, as well as Caucasian and African American kids who were born here, but I decided I don't want to deal with the trolls and deleted it.
