Has pictures of the old YBA building and others and some history of the Japanese community in Pahoa.

You'd hope there would be some option that achieves both the aesthetic value of Japanese craftmanship and the resiliency of cinder-block. Comparing the old building to the new there is certainly a loss of character for the gain in longevity.
