It's a good thing, isn't it?

Will non-residents still be able to park at MacKenzie and walk to Pohoiki?
Then a major section of the hike to Pohoiki will be improved and easier for beach-goers.

There are limited restroom facilities at Pohoiki. Even in better times they could be - - overworked. I would guess the County is intentionally (and hopefully temporarily) limiting access at this time until the port-o-potties are brought in, and later the bathrooms are reconnected with County water lines. Otherwise, it could become a potential health hazard back in the bushes.

I understand and agree that a temporary hold on the public access is the right thing to do to let land/home owners get back in first to secure their properties. But General access needs to be granted to everyone after that. Open the gates during the day. Close the park access after dark.

As stated before; the plan is to bring in a water trailer to supply the existing bathrooms and provide rinse water.

I guess those public restrooms have their own Septic system?
Water and portables can be brought in quick.
It should't be a problem.

Yes.
Watching the steep incline the dozer was working on, I would guess the initial road will be car or pickup accessible, but perhaps too steep or too narrow for a large, fully loaded, heavy water truck. Some additional grading may be required over time so the larger trucks can climb the grade, brake properly, not tip or sink into soft spots.

I think your negativity is misplaced here.

Not so much; it's just another example of "County does what it wants".

Damn those county rascals! Providing access to a beach park in Puna to a self indulgent public. Why can't those people just go to the pool and swim? Or Kona?

Providing access to a beach park in Puna

The temporary road will "eventually" go to Isaac Hale, but there's no ETA.

They also haven't said "when" the road wll be open to "the general public".

If it's built with "emergency" funds, then it will never be open to the general public, as happened with Railroad Ave: graded, graveled, gated.

Kalakoa,
Relax...............breath...........it's going to be OK.

You said earlier that it would take a year......(it's happening)

you said it must meet codes.....(it's happening)

you said the public won't be admitted.......(it's already happening, over a brutal handmade trail. Do you think a gravel road is going to keep people out?)

See you on the beach!

The Mayor knows the value of a big attraction like Pohoiki. I'm sure It will be open to the public sooner than later because it will stimulate the economy.
