RE: is the Mauna Kea blockade ethical? - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 12-20-2019 Ige should let the Big Island become its own state. Assuming we'd keep the brand name "Hawaii" after succession, we might survive off off tourism for a few years until out of state visitors figure out what happened. The fee for Exit Visas alone could generate a fortune. RE: is the Mauna Kea blockade ethical? - geochem - 12-20-2019 quote: More likely, Harry Kim played the "home rule" card and Ige gave him all the rope he asked for... Maybe Ige is smart enough, when the assembled obstructionists next try to block the road, to blow Harry off and get the job done... But I won't be making any bets on that likelihood... RE: is the Mauna Kea blockade ethical? - macuu222 - 12-20-2019 I don't understand why they give the protesters a week notice to remove everything from the road. Just go up there unannounced and move them or arrest them. In a weeks time right after Christmas with kids home from school and workers off for the holidays they can get thousands of people up there to help block the road. If they had done it today....they would have had about 75. RE: is the Mauna Kea blockade ethical? - Chunkster - 12-20-2019 I drove by the squalid little settlement today about 15:30, and they were breaking down tents in several places. There were piles of rubbish and some wrecked tent frames scattered about. So much for protecting the "aina." RE: is the Mauna Kea blockade ethical? - TomK - 12-20-2019 "As long as protesters are there - the County or DLNR will keep some officers at the entrance to the summit road. They are simply going to stop the "extra enforcement" fiasco." And this information comes from where? It certainly isn't supported by observations from those that travel to the mountain every day.
