RE: Waste Incinerator Proposed For NELHA - Aaron S - 12-14-2007 Damon, like I said previously you don't live here in Kona and probably never will. Thus your support of this waste incinerator is akin to being a armchair quarterback. I've lived here in Kona, in the same house for 32 years almost. So I'm not moving anywhere. But I'm not going to stand idly by when this project gets approved. RE: Waste Incinerator Proposed For NELHA - Guest - 12-14-2007 quote: Aaron - take a step back and go look at NELHA's homepage. NELHA's purpose is to benefit the ENTIRE STATE... Not just KONA's. Calling me an armchair quarterback on this issue is telling me you don't know as much about NELHA as you would think. "Welcome to the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA) website. RE: Waste Incinerator Proposed For NELHA - Bob Orts - 12-14-2007 We still have the underlying reason for all this, which is what to do with Hawaii's trash? If anyone can answer this, we may not have to address incinerators. RE: Waste Incinerator Proposed For NELHA - Guest - 12-14-2007 I just Looked at this aerial view of the place were talking about. And wanted to examine a few of the "tenants" of NELHA. And then read this customer profile of the clients that this company is trying to bring in.... and just from this statement alone it sounds like a "snobby" company: CUSTOMER DEMOGRAPHIC • Upscale, health-oriented, and knowledgeable people who have discriminating taste and appreciate subtle differences in taste. • People who enjoy fine dining, cooking and entertaining and insist on the finest quality brands and ingredients for cocktails, meals and dinner parties, etc. • Purchasers and drinkers of single-malts, bourbons, premium ryes and cognacs who want the ultimate splash or chaser with these fine beverages And I just love the prices of the bottle of water that this other company is selling. 30 bottles for $99.00! And let's look at the third company on this site: Savers is also the first multinational corporation to join the list of commercial tenants in NELH If you understand anything about Multinational Corporation's maybe your thoughts might change a bit. ----------------- Coming home soon! For example, burning and burying require big machines and big decisions by big people with big responsibilities and big egoes. Henry Kissinger said something to the effect, "Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac." Another, less erotic answer? Reduce, Reuse, Recycle really does work. Unbknownst to a lot of people (as is protypical in these situations) there is a thriving trade in what we refer to as 'trash' -- paper, plastic, metal of all kinds. This is a resource market where entrepreneurial smarts are saving the planet (or, at least helping a bit)! A starter link: Institute for Local Self Reliance at ilsr.org and, from there, enjoy. The level of development of this 21st Century resource market is focussing on Zero Waste in public and private sector policies. Maybe that is an "answer"? I will fight this project if it bankrupts me. Just imagine if they put a waste incinerator right next to your home. I'm sure you would be pissed off.
