RE: Pu'u O'o inflation - PaulW - 05-02-2018 Okay, so if lava comes out of the East rift zone it flows generally south because that's downhill from there, correct? (Judging by the other graphic on the same site showing historical flows) RE: Pu'u O'o inflation - Kapoho Joe - 05-02-2018 NEW UPDATE FROM HVO: REPORTS CONTINUOUS LOW MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE ACTIVITY IN LOWER PUNA WHICH INCLUDES LEILANI, NANAWALE AND KAPOHO. HVO INDICATES AN ERUPTION IS POSSIBLE. BECAUSE IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO PREDICT WHERE AN ERUPTION COULD OCCUR, THE AREAS THAT COULD BE AFFECTED ARE NANAWALE AND LEILANI TO KAPOHO. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stay safe everyone! RE: Pu'u O'o inflation - bluesboy - 05-02-2018 the rift zone is where eruptions can occur. rift zones are lava zone 1. because that is where lava erupts, it is the highest point. lava will flow downhill - and in the case of the east rift zone, which more or less runs east/west - the flow will be to the north or south, depending on which 'side' of the rift zone erupts. areas directly downhill of the rift zone are lava zone 2. RE: Pu'u O'o inflation - Wao nahele kane - 05-02-2018 Zones are established by age of lava flow in zone region, nothing more. And they've not been updated in many years. RE: Pu'u O'o inflation - leilanidude - 05-02-2018 Okay, so if lava comes out of the East rift zone it flows generally south because that's downhill from there, correct? ------------- The east rift zone has a north and south side. If the lava came out on the north side of the peak of the rift zone (think continental divide) the lava would flow downhill to the north. RE: Pu'u O'o inflation - Kapoho Joe - 05-02-2018 So if Mac2017s crack opens up and spews forth lava, it will run to Pohoiki or Kapoho? RE: Pu'u O'o inflation - dayna - 05-02-2018 I was looking at the earthquakes and they are moving towards Pohoiki. Dayna www.E-Z-Caps.com RE: Pu'u O'o inflation - Mac2017 - 05-02-2018 That is exactly where its pointed, think of makamae as the crack and draw a line to the ocean. RE: Pu'u O'o inflation - Obie - 05-02-2018 Here is a link to the pictures of the road in Leilani : https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2082856311730068&set=pcb.2082856478396718&type=3&theater&ifg=1 RE: Pu'u O'o inflation - leilanidude - 05-02-2018 Look closer at the quake times and distances underground that the quakes are located. Guessing somewhere between Seaview and Mackenzie and anywhere from slightly offshore to a couple miles mauka. |
