RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - Seeb - 07-15-2019 If the county and state roll over on this, forget about anyone else trying to bring non- tourist jobs to the state. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - TomK - 07-15-2019 The protest has now made national news, e.g., https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mauna-kea-protest-activists-block-road-in-protest-of-hawaii-telescope-location-2019-07-15/ https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/07/15/hawaii-mauna-kea-protests-rage-against-thirty-meter-telescope/1739657001/ therefore suspect it's only a small step before it makes the international news. The state and county are really going to be under scrutiny in the next few days. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-15-2019 The state and county are really going to be under scrutiny in the next few days. That’s for sure. Can you imagine if during the lava flow last year a group of lower Puna residents defied the police, national guard, and DLNR, went out in a large group and camped? Blocked roads? Took pictures? Flew drones? DLNR had no trouble arresting anyone who looked at them sideways. Homeowners were not allowed on their own property so they could rescue a few valuables. But trespassing on Mauna Kea? Here you go folks, sorry it took us 30 hours for the port-a-potty delivery. We apologize you had to pollute the watershed in the meantime. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - dan d - 07-16-2019 It was a good pro TMT PRO STEM rally yesterday. Nice people, mello Aloha HPP RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - kalakoa - 07-16-2019 forget about anyone else trying to bring non- tourist jobs to the state No, the protestors will also block construction of new resorts. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-16-2019 Hawaii County getting help with law enforcement. Posted around 8 AM Monday: BREAKING: About 60 Honolulu Police Officers en route to the Big Island, Mauna Kea. Half are arriving via commercial flight, the other half on a Coast Guard C130. The officers’ vehicles are already there waiting for them. After that good faith grace period, during which the protesters will have been told multiple times what is coming, they should be arrested with an overwhelming show of force sufficient to discourage anything foolish on their part beyond symbolic civil disobedience. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - kalakoa - 07-16-2019 they should be arrested with an overwhelming show of force Not convinced we have enough police for that, unless the military and/or National Guard is mobilized. |
