Nope, it's too late for turning that ship around.

Besides, 14 day trend for Covid cases, hospitalized and deaths in Hawaii is -17%, -35% and -51% respectively.

Re @Obie

"For the first time in 76 years I have gone over 2 years without a cold ."

Yeah Obie me too ( 2 years without a cold) but then I got one.  It was pretty bad.  When not wearing the mask, not isolating and not taking all those precautions, who knows how many minor viruses your body fights off and they have no effect on you?

So that leads to this question:  Is it more valuable to be exposed and let your immune system gain strength again after that ordeal?  Or do we continue on with those covid practices?  Are you always going to be that careful?  No holiday parties?  It's likely you'll be exposed again at some point.  And after years of getting no cold or flu bugs won't it hit you even harder when it finally does?

Is it more valuable to be exposed and let your immune system gain strength again …

So when you get a cold your immune system becomes so strong you never get a cold again?  Or you’d rather get sick to strengthen your immune system than eating right and exercising?

Colds are often a type of corona virus, colds and flu evolve each year and often times you can be exposed to them gaining immunity to the new evolution without getting severely Ill, especially for younger folks. It is exactly correct to assume that going years without exposing your immune system would lead to severe illness when finally being exposed. This is how immune systems work, also why natural immunity is so effective as the entire immune response is trained in multiple parts. The MRNA vaccine trains the immune response to the spike protein found on the original Covid-19 variant, hence the reduced effectiveness with the new variants. Add the covid-19 virus in its endemic evolving form to that equation.

It is exactly correct to assume...

I'd rather not assume, but would rather check what medical experts recommend to boost yoiur immune system.  For those of us fortunate enough to live in Hawaii it's easy enough to eat fresh fruit and excercise outdoors on a year around basis.  And most everything else on the list:

  • Don't smoke.

  • Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables.

  • Exercise regularly.

  • Maintain a healthy weight.

  • If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.

  • Get adequate sleep.

  • Take steps to avoid infection, such as washing your hands frequently and cooking meats thoroughly.

  • Try to minimize stress.

  • Keep current with all recommended vaccines. Vaccines prime your immune system to fight off infections before they take hold in your body.

They certainly weren’t pushing those things the past two years even though those factors were the most important in surviving Covid. Instead they asked people to exercise less, eat and drink to excess and get fat. Single largest correlating factor with death besides age and it skyrocketed.

One of those factors one might consider when trying to understand what we did right and what we did Wrong.
I lost my job, got depressed and gained weight. I couldn’t go to the beach, couldn’t go to the pool, just walking at home.

Captain Renault:
What in heaven's name brought you to Casablanca?

Rick:
My health. I came to Casablanca for the waters.

Captain Renault:
The waters? What waters? We're in the desert.

Rick:
I was misinformed.

I’m shocked! Shocked to find when you lay people off, work them from home and close every public outlet they ate and drank themselves into obesity and depression! We shall not even get into the suicide statistics, all to find according to the actual science the lockdowns accomplished nothing.

RE: Gov. David Ige says state indoor mask mandate to end March 25 - kalakoa - 03-23-2022

work them from home and close every public outlet

The alternative was masking and/or vaccination.
