We bought a house that was built in the early 70's on a slab, in Keaau downtown area. It has survived the '75 quake, and the slab was unscathed then & now. Today we did not feel the shake (nor did people at our on slab church built in the 50's) as much as some of the people around on post & pier (all we felt was a gentle fluid motion). Our neigborhood has a majority of older plantation type homes, and ~20% slab, almost all homes pre-'75. No one that we talked to today, here in Keaau, has any quake complaints from today.

John my house is 33 years old, on a slab and on bedrock. We did rock and roll this morning like it was on Jell-O instead of bedrock. Not a crack inside or out from the roof to the slab. Nothing fell down or broke.

I was inside our post and pier shed as it shake, rattled, and rolled. Really thankful, it is well built, but also thankful I didn't just set the piers on the soil as designed.
I was very concerned about the new house and the slabs. It shook so much, I watched as the morning dew rolled down the roof panels like it was raining. I inspected very carefully, not a crack in the slab, nor anything else appearing out of place - this ProTEC house survived quite well.

Our post and pier deck rolled... and rattled...
Over the course of the morning Robert checked on his jobs sites.... not one cracked slab!!! He had a big smile and was saying " Extra rebar and higher PSI concrete".... now no one will complain about the slight extra cost on the slabs!

Great to hear that none of our friends on here sustained any serious damage. David M, I guess Rob's building system does work as well as I thought it would. Glad to know.

We did more swaying than shaking but we are mostly post and pier on deep soil. The posts and floor joists had been replaced several years ago or I think we would have been in much worse shape, mostly just broken items falling from shelves. The bath house on a concrete foundation seemed to have a quicker swaying movement and fasther motion, possibly because of the lack of flexible wooden posts? We are up the Hamakua coast and there was significant road damage in our area although the houses just reported minor damages.
