FFS - doctors are supposed to be able to order the test through both state lab and commercial labs if a patient tests negative for influenza a & b. I would push on the PCP regarding the specific criteria for testing.

Don't laugh, that might be the difference between retaining a civil society and losing it all together to chaos. You just can't have the nation's chief medical officer on TV telling congress the system is breaking down and expect the rest of the world not to follow in short order. Folks living hand to mouth in inner city conditions have to eat, even if they have to steal to do so.

The government is going to print money no matter what. Usually it goes to bankers, brokers, and bailouts. In this crisis it makes sense to put it in the hands of consumers. I think if you did it all the time it might lead to inflation; in Hawaii with tourism tanking it would be a lifeline.

President Trump will declare a national emergency today, a senior administration official says. He will invoke the Stafford Act, which allows FEMA to coordinate disaster response and aid state and local governments.

I can’t find TomK’s concerns about Civil Defense taking over Hawaii Island in a COVID-19 emergency, but today’s actions might lead to it:
“We have very strong emergency powers under the Stafford Act,” Mr. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday. “I have it memorized, practically, as to the powers in that act. And if I need to do something, I’ll do it. I have the right to do a lot of things that people don’t even know about.”

I can’t verify the information which follows, other than to say it’s from my sister, and she and her husband are privy to more info than most. We’ll know more after the 9 AM press conference.
For what it’s worth, from my sister:
A neighbor just called me who knows a lawyer
at White House meeting today.....she said stuff may happen with banks so
make sure have full tank of gas and large ants of cash on hand. May
have something to do with ability to use credit cards.

I would think in a crisis credit cards would be the preferred method for transactions rather than money, it’s certainly cleaner. So I don’t fully understand the implications of a restriction (if there is one.) But perhaps there will be limits imposed on credit card transactions? To prevent people from charging their cards up to the limit? Healthcare related expenses alone could do that.
In any case, fill up your gas tank, that’s a good idea.

One needs to remember, epidemics are a natural effect of overpopulation, squeezing too many people into too small an area.
The consensus is that hunter-gathering societies never had epidemics.
We've only had epidemics, and a few other maladies, since our socialization was adapted by agriculture.
We need to find ways to bring our population down, or nature will do it for us.

More details on House / White House / Treasury agreement, to be signed and put into affect shortly:
The measure includes:
* two weeks of paid sick leave
* up to three months of paid family and medical leave
* enhanced unemployment benefits
* free virus testing including for those who lack insurance
* additional food aid
* federal funds for Medicaid
So quite a lot for the employed and unemployed of Puna.

The HI DOH hasn't given any updated information in more than 24 hrs. Still only 32 tests for the whole state and only 2 confirmed cases. I find it hard to believe that's all there is. Supposed to be a news conference this afternoon but I've seen nothing yet. We need communication and we need testing.
