Harry is viewed as a saint, Billy a sinner.
That's the case with politicians isn't it? Their supporters see the miracles they've performed, their foes mostly the faults. The difference is, a majority of public officials don't go so far as to break the law, and no matter how close they may get at times there's nothing to charge them with. If they do step over the line and break a law or a moral code, that's what sticks in people's minds, and in their craw.
Billy inherits a recessionary economy... and steers a tight ship with major projects accomplished
It's a story as old as civilization itself:
A backpacker is traveling through Ireland when it starts to rain. He decides to wait out the storm in a nearby pub. The only other person at the bar is an older man staring at his drink. After a few moments of silence the man turns to the backpacker and says in a thick Irish accent:
"You see this bar? I built this bar with my own bare hands. I cut down every tree and made the lumber myself. I toiled away through the wind and cold, but do they call me McGreggor the bar builder? No."
He continued "Do you see that stone wall out there? I built that wall with my own bare hands. I found every stone and placed them just right through the rain and the mud, but do they call me McGreggor the wall builder? No."
"Do ya see that pier out there on the lake? I built that pier with my own bare hands, driving each piling deep into ground so that it would last a lifetime. Do they call me McGreggor the pier builder? No."

Very relieved to hear that the questioned establishment our mayor was spending tax-payer money in was not an inappropriate strip club. Maybe it was more like Hilo's green onion, another place on my list to avoid.
Something you touched on with your reply kind of bothers me, guests? This could help explain the shockingly high prices of the bills he agreed to pay.
Then again if he paid with the government p-card wouldn't the public have a right to know who the other guests were (business or friends)?
Its also troubling that if all our mayor had was a government p-card to pay his bills with. Then why would he make it a practice to invite multiple guests to dine with him in an expensive establishment? If he chose to use the p-card then we could expect that he should be able to provide receipts with a full report of why the special use of the P-card,jmo.
Also do you hilopuna, think Harry Kim would have felt that fancy bikes or surfboards were need essentials during the hurricane or lava flow emergencies?
Not that it matters, yet Our household needed important things like water, power, windows, doors, tape, fans, and air purifiers to help make sure our kids were safe during those trying times.

Yes, I was told he was with two Asian visitors and another elected official on that occasion. Did you notice that entertainment expense (or the notorious surfboard) on the indictment? Just curious how much effort you, and others, are putting in to keep yourselves accurately informed.

The indictment doesn't list out the items involved, only the value amounts. As you are better informed than most on this topic, perhaps you'd like to share which purchases account for the charges of theft?
The indictment does detail some of the spending reports he may have knowingly misrepresented. Thoughts on why he may have done this?

I saw photos of the indictment on a news website while traveling. It can't be that hard....and there's quite a bit more info than just value of transaction. In fact there's everything but the names of those who were there or the actual items purchased ( but just what's in Longs Drugs inventory that could lead to an indictment, or who could be at lunch at the Yacht Club that warrants a warrant?). As far as "knowingly" goes, really? That's the ham sandwich side of Grand Juries. Now prove it.....
just to finish this thought. This is not about Billy as some Slick Willie nebulously defining terms to avoid the truth.
Billy used his credit card for a wide range of purchases, Entertainment (including alcohol) specially allowed
There should have been monthly or quarterly accountability to clarify purpose or intent.

A reporter gets a copy of a statement, Somehow. Headline news " KOREAN BAR"
All the accounts are settled.
Whole thing stinks, Indictment follows.
Newspapers continues to print inflammatory headlines, titillating front page paragraphs, and actual cold hard facts that undercut the premise of the entire article in the last few paragraphs buried on page 7. Sheep graze the tall grass on page 1, skipping the fodder.
Careers are affected, public trust suffers.
End of the day....never let anyone ever say they saw you **** a goat, no matter what. If you do they'll put it in the paper.
