Happiness is....

Well, I guess any given day, the answer will vary

Today, Happiness is getting a check mark in the "APPROVED" box of county framing inspection.

I feel a major hurdle has been overcome.

David & Sophie,
Posts look great. Particularly like the picture of the you three...

Where did you get them? We might add some to our design, but I would like to get some pricing first.

thanks in advance

David & Sophie, Congrats! Jim drove me up your street Saturday (near dusk, on the way home from the other side). What a gorgeous area you guys live in! Wishing you guys all the best on the finish work!
Aloha, Carey

Thanks all
Ohia posts came by way of Jeff Anderson (938-0572) in Ocean View. Not only does he have logs, but also mills lumber from native wood like ohia.

Carey - you should come on up.

Today was another great day - 16 windows installed and 4 sliding patio doors. Still many more to go.

Hi David,
I’ve chosen to build my house w/ Castleblock however the Rastra material is going up in price so I’m considering switching to ProTech. What made you choose ProTech, how easy is it to assemble, and how many people are on your day-to-day construction crew? Thanks for the info.

RE: Ninole Progress - David M - 01-19-2007

Hi Crissy

I chose ProTec because it is a panelized system, goes up in sections 3 ft wide and 8,9,or 10 ft high. It's all tied together with galvanized steel channel. You'd be most welcome to come by and take a look, discuss any questions/lessons learned. To me, the cempo/rastra block was more complicated (rebar and concrete fill) and would require more to finish, but as I've never used it these are strictly theory on my part. My experience with ProTec has been quite positive, should I ever build again, it would be my first choice.
As for labor - I have a crew of 1. Dale and I started erecting walls 06/22/06. A couple of times a another hand would have helped, but we developed work arounds. I hired more people to erect the roofing structure and panels - definitely more than a 2 person job. Once roof was on - back to 1 helper.
Rob has been a valuable resource.

Look forward to your visit.

Very cool, David. Thanks, I would like to tour your place some time. I'll email you.

Aloha Dave & Sophie! Haven't checked on the progress in a while...how exciting that your home looks like a house! It's not a box anymore! You have windows and doors and roof!

Do you have a projected time-line Dave? Keep the photos rolling in - it's so fun to watch!
